Italian Lakes and where to stay
Discussion
We are planning 4 nights in the Italian Lakes area next September. Any ideas on where to stay? Plan to do the Stelvio. Would like to stay on the lake shore, but must have safe secure parking for 2 Porsche. Been looking at Bellagio, Menaggio, Lugano and Riva del Garda. Struggling to find an ideal hotel that doesn't cost a fortune. Help please?....

Recomended and no problem with parking, always loads of German Porsches there.
Cheers.....Tony..
I stayed at these two places in 2011 -both were pretty special, especially CasaDiva on Como...

Stayed here after the GP in Monza a few years ago. Underground car park and a fantastic steak served on the terrace are vivid memories and no hesitation in recommending.

Nice looking hotels.
I hope this isn't hijacking the thread too much but does anyone have suggestions for the stop or two before or after such a trip?
Consider Calais as a starting point, one option is to keep to the north of France, head to the Black Forest for a night, then on to Austria at which point, does anyone have recommendations for hotels of a similar nature to the ones above?
Then with the extended stop in the Lakes, which way back?
I'm also keeping an eye on this: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... too.
Priority is a balance of great driving roads with extended stopovers in fab locations rather than a marathon of "must tick off every pass."

Around halfway between Calais and the lakes is http://citedelautomobile.com/en/home which is one of the great PH places.
Next year we are planning to bypass the drive down and use the autorail http://citedelautomobile.com/en/home then blast down to Sorrento for a couple of days and then back with stops in/around Florence, Innsbruck and Koblenz.

Thanks. Bormio Looks like a good stop off - interesting spa in one of the other hotels too.
We stayed 3 days in the Miramonte in Bormio last year after the Boxsters gear linkage fell apart at the top of the Stelvio. The owner runs a Grp 4 FIA 911 & rallies all over Europe. Speaks good english as do some of the other staff. Good not flashy rustic Italian food & a spa & underground car park. Possibly the biggest hotel room I have ever had in my life.http://www.miramontibormio.it/en/
This maybe too far west for you but it's a fantastic hotel. Great food and right on the lake, with underground parking in individual lock-ups. I stayed there in June this year on a Euro tour following Le Mans.

Of course all of these recommendations are dependant on your Budget? You will get a better rate if you telephone and book directly with many of these Hotels.
I have also stayed here for a week in the Summer, Limone is a car free town but there is a very nice multi story carpark on the edge of town
