Any recommendations on a series of roads to use in these areas?

Off the top of my head.

In Rutland.
B672/A6121 - Caldecott to Stamford
B668 - Oakham bypass (A606) to the A1 at Stretton

Surrounding areas.
B6047 - Market Harborough to Melton Mowbray
B6403 - Woolsthorpe to Cranwell
A151 - Colsterworth to Spalding

Others may have further suggestions to offer.

Oh I know, I'm 21. And got caught within 5 weeks of passing my test - my dad was chuffed when the speeding ticket came through rofl Regularly drive on Barnsdale hill (where they regularly sit), serious money churner that speed van is!

Went on a spirited drive friday evening and sat morning, nearly lost my car a couple of times properly over egging it - good job I managed to save it - only had my car 6months. Young and dumb it would seem.

Did a route to caldecott on friday, lovely roads, fairly tight though - unfortunately in a derv atm so doesnt sound great but at least I enjoy driving my car anyway. Hopefully in a few years time Ill change to something a bit nicer and possibly RWD.

I used to use the A606/A6006 quite a lot when my sister lived near Six Hills. It's quite a nice road but I always found it frustrating because it is the primary route from Peterborough to Nottingham and Derby and littered with HGVs. Couple that with many people's inability/reluctance to overtake and you get the inevitable camel trains. The south shore road from Empingham to the A6003 at Manton is better imo. The section beyond Edith Weston past the golf course and nature reserve is super quick.

A mate of mine lives in South Luffenham, but as he has no interest whatever in cars the opportunity for a decent drive is limited. He has always driven some POS or other. His previous cars have included a Crossfire and a PT Cruiser ffs! His latest p&j is a diseasel Hyundai. rolleyes

The only reason I put up with him is, no matter where we happen to be, he has an uncanny ability to locate the best pubs. smile

All I need is something petrol, decent power/chassis, and reasonably light. My 1.6 diesel fiesta is fun, but sounds dull, and doesnt quite go how I want. definitely regret not buying the ST version. Diesel is the devil juice but £30 road tax is rather nice!

There are lots of excellent roads in this area.

One good route is to head north of Stamford on the A1, come off at Thistleton and head towards the B676 (Colsterworth-Melton road) via Wymondham.

Be careful - you describe nearly losing your car twice recently.... There are all sorts of hazards around - farm traffic, concealed entrances, horses/cyclists, bends with contracting radii/adverse camber (there's a particularly brutal left hander after you leave Wymondham that regularly results in accidents).

The other roads already mentioned are also very good, although the A6006 can be problematic as described above. The best time for most of these roads appears to be Sunday evenings, when traffic of all types is at its lightest. I've been driving these roads for various reasons since 1997 and I still rate them as some of the best in the country.

This one? - https://goo.gl/maps/9obNA
Radius decreases rapidly by the look of it.

Ive been right in wymondham towards M/O and thistle ton but never gone left actually!

And yes I had a day of being very very stupid, got home and regretted it. since slowed down as not worth it and my driving talents just aren't enough, and as you've described all sorts of dangers about our roads - deer and tractors being the most common of dangers let alone other road users etc. Clearly still have a lot to learn,

We do have some really great roadss and I have some memorable drives around, I need a petrol car again though as my current car is ran on devil juice and doesnt sound of anything just gruff frown .

I also enjoy the Oakham to Tilton road, as driven slightly briskly its some nice tarmac, although theres several sketchy corners/cambers etc. Beyond tilton straight over the 47 in the direction of kibworth are some great faster bits of road as well!

If you do go towards the Melton Rd from Wymondham then that is also an excellent road all the way into Melton, although avoid at busy times of the day.

Venturing slightly further away - follow your way on the B roads from Wansford all the way to Kimbolton and you will discover some excellent tarmac with rare (for the UK) open bends.

I don't mean to be condescending about the warning. I did a fair amount of my HPC training on these roads with John Lyon, as he lives nearby, and despite thinking I was pretty aware of the hazards it was educational to say the least. I am still learning and no doubt will also make plenty more mistakes! Enjoy the roads and good luck finding a more suitable motor :-)

I didn't take it the wrong way don't worry, a friend of a friend who is an advance police driver instructor has offered to take me out to give me tips on things to look out for, he also suggested when I have spare income to do track days if I can afford it to have a blast. Hopefully that may open my eyes a little.

Will have to explore further afield when Im not so busy with revision and work! Plenty of time to explore the roads on my own biggrin
