The bottom of the Lauterette was closed because one of the tunnels collapsed however they have built a new road around it. Officially its local traffic only and is listed as closed on a lot of sites but I've heard it's been open to everyone all winter.
DangerDoom, Co Rousette is my favorite. Lots of sweeping bends mixed with hair-pins, hardly any traffic and not a bad surface, though not as good as it was in '12 as winters take their toll. This was June '13...

I knew there was a question mark over Lauteret and it was your previous info, thanks for the reminder!DangerDoom, Co Rousette is my favorite. Your video has given me the horn but what I never get is, if you get stopped by the Police you basically have a video of the last 50 miles for them to chastise you about, how do you get around that?
don logan, Guess that an issue a lot of us could have. I doubt they'd bother downloading and reviewing video unless you'd done something very serious; Probably just book and fine for whatever they stopped you for. We're careful to observe all village limits and behave on the main roads/motorways. Luckily the worst I've had was a telling off.
DangerDoom, The Combe Leval is worth a look if you're in the area. First time we did it it was strewn with rocks but the second time much better. Be sure to stop and admire the drop though...

I've done it a few times but I was paranoid that the camera on the room was screaming - I've got a camera on my roof because I'm being a bit naughty!DangerDoom, The Combe Leval is worth a look if you're in the area. It's great to watch them back though, would be interesting to monitor heart rate while watching

Yep, that was the bit I saw and referred to in my post. The C28 running into or out of Vielha. The N260 and C13 run into Sort not the C28, at least as far as I can see.Wozy68 said:
Hi Zed, sorry just seen this . Yes that's the road ..... I think it's also classed as the C13. Comes into Sort from Vielha from the North.
No problema (Spanish for no problem). Are you out this year? I'm out for 3 weeks doing the Pyrenees, the Picos and Portugal, then France in September and the Black Forest in October.Zed 44 said:

Hmmm. I may be going down in October with a bunch of 911uk ers to the south of France. I was wanting to go around now to the Pyrenees (but instead is sat by the Pool in the Canaries), reason I didn't was ferry prices of nearly 1k return to Santander. I guess if I do go this year it will be on a motorcycle with a mate and we will throw them in the back of a van and drive down.Enjoy your trip.

Uhoh. Depressed again.
Still only May and snow showers aren't unusual.I did once have to re-route a Col D'Iseran plan a few years ago on September 1st or 2nd due to a freak snow vs R888 combination! (2012??)

Crossed the channel today. Ticked the D996 off the list. In Grenoble tonight. Pumped for Combe Laval (thanks Don/AdiT) and the Col du Rousset tomorrow. Forecast is good and sunrise is 6am .
Good for you, have a great time but be careful!I've never managed to find somewhere nice in Grenoble, how did you get on?
I usuallly stay in Briancon old town or a bit further along in Eygliers
don logan, I did 888's v snow on the Grimsel in late June 2010. They did pretty well but we decided to turn around in the end. On the way down came across an Evo and a Forester that hadn't done so well, had a head on and both ended up balanced on the parapet!
Later the same day three of us did the Julier in dry conditions... but as we crested the top at about 80, there was a snow drift/wall that'd collapsed across the road. Got down to about 50 by the time I hit the 100m of snow. Somehow kept it reasonably straight and lived to tell the tale.

nice
can you give me details of the D996 please
There's an article here: http://www.total911.com/great-roads-d996-cote-dor-... I was in a 997 so there was at least some tenuous connection . It's the stretch between J23 of the A5 (heading east from Troyes), down the D396 to start with, which then becomes the D996 and takes you to Dijon.can you give me details of the D996 please

Will you be going from south to north on your way back towards Calais?

Speaking of DOWN hill, do you remember Yokohama A008s?
I remember coming down from from La Plagne at night in an Integrale with those on while the road was white!
That and taking 6hrs to drive from Val D'Isere to Chamonix driving my friend's mapped 535d in heavy snow on regular tyres
