I see that the government is proposing to spend £1Bn on new by-passes. I don't believe it - they talk but rarely deliver.

Three classic cases in the South of England make that point :

  • The Stonehenge tunnel
  • A303 dualling between Honiton and Ilminster
  • A27 - the by-pass around Arundel.
In each case the talking has occupied decades but ....

The day that building work starts on any of these projects, i will believe in them. Until then, 'pie-in-the-sky' is my summary.

Ilminster - route consultation a few months ago.

Arundel - public consultation about to start.

All three look very live to me. These things don't just happen overnight.
