This has made me want to do it.

Does anyone have a rough idea on costs and how long it will take? I'm down in Dorset, so need to add another day or two each side ideally.
Me and my 2 mates done the drip - Mikedrop above was one of the guys I done it with, if you haven't already check the video link. (post above yours)

We left on a Thursday night from home (south wales) drove to lands end.

Friday morning we set off and drove to inverness. We then spent the next few days doing the NC500 and got back home in south wales on the Tuesday.

EPIC drive and the views were amazing.. I would recommend it to anyone.

Accommodation we done it in £100 each

We travelled 2202 miles and lost count of fuel I put in (more than I thought)

Just enjoy the drive and the views

Nice write up, thanks. Just for the record, John O'Groats is not the most northerly point in mainland Britain, that honour goes to Dunnet Head to the west. That is accessed by a brilliant single track road. Also, cows and sheep are not wildlife wink Glad you enjoyed. I've been in the days before the internet and pitched up at the Tourist Information in Bettyhill looking for accommodation for that night. You really were in the lap of the gods in those days.

Agreed. Dunnet Head is also more impressive than the tourist trap of John O Groats too. Duncansby Head Lighthouse to the East is also worth a visit.
