I didn't realize there was more than one sex shop, only one I know is the one A1m Northbound near Wakefield.
There is one near Grantham, but the A1 is just a dual carriageway at that point

It would really help, OP, if you could tell from where to where, day of the week, time of day otherwise answers are little more than educated guesses or you might as well take a train.

They aren't sex shops. They are adult shops, where you go to buy people.

Outside of rush hour probably M1, but the A1 is more interesting purely for the random stuff that's by it, from random sex shops to that Art Deco looking services.
There are certainly a lot of sex shops on the A1. I do wonder who drives along and then suddenly realises they need an inflatable butt plug the size of a cantaloupe.
Well, it sounds like you did!smile

Nonsense. It wasn't inflatable.

The A1 is certainly more interesting. I drive it fairly frequently.

The sex shops appear mostly to be in former Little Chef buildings. I think there's one at Barnsdale Bar.

I would guess the thinking is...reps away from their wives for a few days....nobody will know if they stop off and...

I find the whole concept sordid in the extreme but to each their own.

A1 southbound between Grantham and Colsterworth, opposite a meeting rooms venue my workplace commonly use!

I often do trips between Newcastle and Hemel and prefer to use the A1 than the M1. It flows better even with less lanes. The M1 can be grim if you catch it at the wrong times.

A1 every time. Less roadworks but can be frustrating stuck behind an elephant race

The A1 for me please, it has history. I always try and pick up some more of the things mentioned in this book every time I use it.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-North-Road-Then-Now...

That and the fact that the traffic flows better and if I have to filter through the stationary stuff, it always feels more comfortable.

Cheers,
Tom

The M1 doesn't go north of Leeds anyway, it cuts across and joins the A1

Yep. North could mean anywhere really and, as we don't know where you're setting off from, it's all guesswork.

Have been doing M1 from MK to Stoke all week and found it fine. The roadworks are 14 odd miles long and take 17 minutes to clear its hardly the end of the world. The next set at Donington aren't too bad either.

Not used either for many a year, last time I used the m1 there was miles of road works at the London end. What's the current route of choice?
Going back fifty years to when the M1 was in its infancy there was a joke about the road surface.
The M1 is not what it is Cracked up to be

So avoid "motorways" would be my advice - because they are a total waste of time and usually closed!
Approximately 51%, or more, of motorways are closed at any one time?

Shorely shum mishtake?
