Haven't heard of anyone yet.

I did notice a sign saying they're restarting the mains work next week, apparently they were on a contract clause to have it open over xmas whether they'd finished or not even if it meant filling in a hole and digging back up 2 weeks later rolleyes

So it's 2 weeks since December 18th when the cameras supposedly went live.

Has anyone heard from anyone who got a NIP yet?
Not yet but I will get one sooner or later, so will report back as and when. I drive this stretch from Cheam to J8 every day to and from work, typically very early am and quite late pm so there’s little traffic at those times. Already finding that dawdling along at 40 on an empty dual carriageway is kin unbearable after a long days work so I will get caught out at some point.

What I wanted to ask is whether anyone knows how quick you’d have to average thru one of the ‘zones’ to trigger it?? I assume they will have some percentage of uprating in order to get ticketed like with the old gatsos, but the question is what level that would be at? Guessing about 55 or thereabouts.

I think if you do 55 average you will be sure to get a ticket. I would guess that the 10% rule might apply ie. 44 being the top limit but knowing how smart modern systems are I think that 42 may be the safest top limit. They have spent a lot of money on this system so they want some revenue and if they can prove that you have exceeded 40 even by 1/2 mph then they can, by the law, charge you.
I don't trust them to have any leniency so I will just stick to a max speed of 40 to feel safe.
I travel very early, 5am, and agree that it is very difficult to stay within the law. Used to enjoy a couple of the roundabouts, but no more. It's all about dumbing down to the lowest common denominator .... the incapable/un-attentive driver who has no car control or feel for the road.
Autonomous cars will do the driving in the future and we'll all be watching the TV or reading a book to pass the journey.

The section of road currently fenced off and being worked on ,southbound ,between Lyme Regis road and Chipstead road

is getting into a bit of a poor state.

The dividing line between lane 1 and the "non lane" where the bus stops etc is very rough due to traffic driving a little bit more to the left

than they would do if both lanes are open.

Some of blocks have been pulled out and created potholes.

"They" must be nearing the end of the pipe works as signs now saying that A217 closed 26th Feb overnight ,all week for

resurfacing ,which is much needed in some places as the southbound section from Ferndale road ,past Lyme Regis road

and to Chipstead road there are multiple potholes caused by all traffic using one lane for weeks on end.

I noticed today ,on foot ,5 hubcaps all been loosened and fallen off cars in a 30 yard stretch of the above.

No sign of the pedestrian lights being fitted down at the Burgh Wood junction.

I just INTERMINABLE now. It feels like it lasts for hours if you get on all the way at the mad mile!

Hated it before. Hate it even more now.

I have also noticed that many of the small B roads are now becoming very crowded as drivers look for a way off the Dual Carriageway!

There's no right turn at the Ford garage currently which isn't helping ,luckily the gap at Chipstead road

is also still closed or else everyone would be using that instead.

Lot's of people turning off way before that at Lower Kingswood, Babylon lane and using the High road through Chipstead, then working their way over to Banstead using Holly lane, And the Pot holes just get worse and worse. They fill em up and within 3 days the holes are back!

It's a joke - my sister lives in Sutton but works in Tadworth.

Her usual route now is around the back of Banstead. (But it was great on the A217 last week as it was half-term)!

But then I live near the "Smart" M3, and that took over 3 years - so it could be worse! banghead

Need to correct some of the above.

Resurfacing will close the road ,unknown at which junctions ,for 10 nights ,week nights only from 26th February 8pm to 6am.

It also looks to me that the new pedestrian crossing isn't having lights fitted ,they've just increased the pedestrian "waiting area"

and reduced the width of the road slightly as previously mentioned.

Hubcap toll is still high ,I've picked up 10 and placed them by the bin ,which the council have removed ,next day ,3 more were

laying in various places.

I think they will be fitting pedestrian lights as there are blanking plates in the appropriate positions on the crossing. I expect they will fit the lights when the road works are completed.
Anyone had a ticket yet?

Not yet, but there seem to be a few inconsistencies with the Average camera set up?
When you turn onto the A217 heading northbound from Reigate Hill there were TWO cameras (one for each lane of the carriageway) attached to the First Lamp Post. Now one of them is missing?

Due to the length of time the Decorating is taking, I really do wonder if the cameras are live at all!

I’ve heard the cameras are currently broken and turned off because the part is out of stock.

I was ready to report the appalling potholes and surface of the 217 but looking at the Surrey Highways site ,many have

already been there and done it.

As I mentioned before the surface from roughly Romans down to the end of the roadworks at Chipstead road ,southbound

is littered with huge holes ,which are ripping hubcaps off cars and today I saw an old fella with a flat tyre ,waiting for help

just turned into Chipstead road.

I should have offered to change it for him but a stiff back and some "stuff going on" prevented me.

The resurfacing has commenced a week late due to weather ,a mile down the road on the "mad mile" section overnight.

As soon as Murphy finish their pipe laying I would expect major repairs to be carried out to the surface.

So does the average speed cameras switch to 20mph through the roadworks parts?

Well good luck with that!
Seeing how the Council operate I very much doubt they will bother to repair the road anytime soon
