Hello,

I was driving past the roadworks north of Buckden/south of Alconbury on A1 north bound. It's a 40 mph with signs for average speed cameras. Where the lane is closed so it moves you over, my instinctive, stupid reaction was to increase speed (to 59 max) as if preparing to get on the highway. It was only for a few seconds before I caught myself and slowed down, but it was right in front of the cameras, which were mounted on long yellow poles hanging over the road. According to my understanding, the only cameras mounted on those yellow poles and that small (smaller than a GATSO) cameras are all average speed cameras. Is that correct? Does that mean then that my dope-moment will go unnoticed because I was at or below speed for the rest of the trip before and after those 5 seconds or so?

I'm fairly new to driving here, so I'm really hoping I didn't already get myself in trouble. I make my share of mistakes, but I don't intentionally speed.

Thank you.

There are yellow average cameras both north and south in those roadworks - the first north one is just past the where the Buckden slip road has joined and the next is by the A14 crosses. I don't think there is another north of there but there are lots of other single cameras right up to the A1m start(prob traffic monitoring but you've got to assume not...) If they are set for 45mph you might be ok for a short burst - just hope the only post you get the next few days are Christmas cards!

There are a lot of people who push n shove in the 40 limit, especially south in the morning - the limit does make sense for a big chunk of the works with various site accesses, narrow variable lanes and some shocking bits of surface where they have burnt the white lines off.
