Hi there,

Using Ledbury as a staging point for a group tour up to the Evo triangle (people are coming from all parts of England). Can anyone recommend a decent route from Ledbury to the Evo Triangle?

Thanks in advance.

West to Brecon Beacons. And then sweep north up the west coast of Wales to the Evo Tri.

Brecon Beacons? Great: that is if you fancy a 50 mile detour in the wrong direction to begin with.

OP try this, much B road fun. smile - https://goo.gl/maps/cL3bGshWqHA2
if you're planning to do other roads in the area as well as the Evo Triangle, keep the bit beyond Bala (A4212/B4391/B4407) in hand for that.
Head this way to Cerrigydrudion/Pentrefoelas instead - https://goo.gl/maps/gZN5NgJmFEs

Average speed cameras to be installed on the triangle imminently.

Predictable. Same as the Cat & Fiddle (which ultimately led to the demise of the eponymous pub).
Personally I think the Triangle attracts too many like this idiot in the Civic - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoDAX1ZJ-g8
I have never fathomed out why people post videos to youtube which anyone can view and which are likely to get them into trouble.

Will the average speed cameras be for NSL or lower?

Any other suggestions of roads through Wales that might offer an alternative?

Get on to the A5, although not as good as it used to be 50 years ago.

Haven't a clue, but the C&F is 50 - https://goo.gl/maps/Q7ax79yB3M72
Wouldnt be surprised if the Triangle turns out to be the same.
It's not going to become a reality for some time yet though.

Plenty of alternatives to the Triangle if you want to avoid it.
Mid Wales - https://goo.gl/maps/gi6DnmuCQDw

Not sure whether you're planning a day trip or a weekend (Sat/Sun).
If the latter you can link the above to this.
North Wales - https://goo.gl/maps/yFV77SqKWzx
Doing both in one day is possible but OTT for those who have a long drive home afterwards.

If you want to do North Wales only from Ledbury.

We are there from Friday to Sunday and were going to camp at the pub at the end of the original route you sent.

Still want to do the triangle but would be good to have an alternative for the Saturday....maybe Snowdonia and the coast?

Foelas Arms Hotel? - https://goo.gl/maps/CwCeGeqL6wQ2
If so, then reach it via the A5, rather than Bala - https://goo.gl/maps/gZN5NgJmFEs
Keep Bala for Saturday. See below.

Many people don't think of going over to Anglesey.
Or, if that doesn't appeal, try

In Harlech you will find a short (one way) road.
Arguably the steepest hill in the UK (40%)
https://goo.gl/maps/nLakbMks57Q2

All of the above routes will let you do the B4391 both ways.
I guarantee you will love it. smile

Triangle on Sunday. Do a lap one way then the other, ending back in Pentrefoelas.
Then this loop finishing at Llyn Brenig - https://goo.gl/maps/BDxwvHnLHLE2

Was actually thinking of staying here?

Is that near the one above? Any reason you suggested the Foelas Arms?

D'oh! The reason was that your mention of 'camp at' somehow escaped me...

Seeing as it is so close, I would head over to Ross-on-Wye and pick up the B4521 at St Owen's Cross - this will take you to Abergavenny.

As others have suggested, the B4520 from Brecon through Upper Chapel to Builth Wells, and the B4518 Llanidloes to Staylittle are also worth a look on your way North (or on your way back South).

Is it hard to get hold of 99RON in N. Wales/on these routes?

It can be hard getting petrol on some of these routes. But then again it is not that far. So you probably won't need to buy petrol. Once you get into the town's petrol is freely available. But you can easily drive 50 miles without passing a petrol station. If you find petrol they will probably sell 99 Ron .

Does anyone know how to or know of an app that will take the above routes and convert them so they can be uploaded on a tom tom Go 510?

The Cat and Fiddle pass was the most dangerous road in UK. Once single vehicle accidents are deducted (i.e. bikers over-cooking it) it is one of the safest.

Biker deaths in North Wales have been horrendous this year.

Got back from the tour on Sunday...what a great time...9 very happy petrol heads!

Thanks for the help with these routes, totally epic and we also had a clear Evo Triangle on the Friday and Saturday afternoon/Evening. There are no average speed cameras installed.

https://goo.gl/maps/Nb6t6JkWMEM2

The roads on this map up to Snowden (where we stopped for lunch) were bloody fantastic.

https://goo.gl/maps/gZN5NgJmFEs

This route up from Ledbury was also cracking! Managed to keep all 9 cars together pretty much all the way.

Getting 98 Ron or higher also wasn't a problem.
