As per the title, am planning a 2 day/2 night road trip and wanted recommendations of places to stay.

Thinking is that we'd start out in the north and stay somewhere around Chester/Wrexham for night 1 so we can get an early start for day 1 of the road trip, focusing on the roads around Snowdonia before heading south to overnight somewhere ahead of spending day 2 around the Brecon Beacons before heading home down the M4.

At the moment, its the second night stop-over that I'm looking for recommendations - the current route I'm plotting will utilise the A470 to head south once we've finished the lap(s) of Snowdonia, and think somewhere around Newtown/Llanidloes would make sense ?

Any recommendations of good flowing roads to explore are also welcome (and, yes, the B4391 is already on the route wink )

Cheers !

May I suggest Chirk castle for the first night instead of Chester / Wrexham it’s very impressive with themed rooms, peacocks wandering around the gardens and the downstairs is like a London old boys club with leather chairs open fires and smoking jackets and your straight onto the A5 in the morning towards snowdonia. Wrexham is a dump the best hotel will be a travel lodge and the town centre is full or drug addicts and homeless.

Can’t really help you with your second night I’m a North Wales lad. Probably further south than Newtown how about heading over to the coast road after snowdonia and over night Aberystwyth way. Some stunning roads on the way to Aber.

Thanks for the suggestions, will avoid Wrexham and look into an overnight in Aberystwyth. At the moment the planned route and overnight stops looks like this:

Day 2:

Any suggestions on other routes/roads to do/avoid ?

Thanks

Richard

Second night in Barmouth or if posh Aberdovey (but it's duller).

You may find the travelling very slow in North Wales. No fast roads going South.

I've modified day 1, to take in Machynllyth to Llanidloes. The extra 20 minutes or so it adds is well worth it smile

Stop anywhere, there are some great 'slaughtered lamb' type inns about, full of charactersmile

Miss Wales, it was my playground as a 20 something.
