That's an unexpectedly good point -- the thread is about a single driver, in the main. Interesting journeys, nevertheless and would like to hear more about them, particularly outside of Europe.

The Isle of Mull journey must've started to become tiring North of Glasgow!
The Mull journey gets fun North of Glasgow (or in fact west of Stirling) - or at least it did before the average speed cameras were put in…

I’ve done it so many times, that I probably could do most of it in my sleep!
That makes me sad. Bloody avg cameras.

Baden, south of Vienna to Galway, Ireland
2300km in just under 24hours.
I burned a lot of petrol and engine oil.
I presume that there was some type of ferry involved.

50km Chunnel and 100km fast ferry. They’re not included in the driving distance.

Crewe - Dundee - Crewe. 4 nights a week, although there are 2 of us, so I get to spend 5-6 hours asleep in the passenger seat :-)

I used to do Forres - Helston in around 11 - 12 hours 2 or 3 times a year, when I was stationed at RAF Kinloss.

Last year me and the family drove from Bangkok to Bueng Kan for Songkran (Thai New Year) usually takes about 11hours, due to the heavy traffic was closer to 15.

Traffic leaving Bangkok was mental.

Beckenham, SE London to just north of Scourie, Sutherland. Single driver, done about twice a year. Leave at 5am and beat all traffic - arrive around 8pm. I generally try to make it to the Scottish border before I have to stop for a break.

664 miles each way.

It always feels much further on the return leg!
I have done London to north of the Black Isle quite often (about 600 miles) and always found northbound far easier than southbound. A really early start enables you to avoid much of the traffic heading north, but whenever you start heading south I have never been as successful.

I am never desperate to leave our friends in the outer reaches of the Highlands and am ill-inclined to leave theirs at 5am for the southbound journey. I normally leave just after breakfast time.

Heading south, there is no real morning 'rush hour' to avoid apart from a possible queue on the A9 SB for the Longman Roundabout at Inverness. Around the 5-6pm mark I am normally bombing past Carlisle/Penrith.

The real pain is when you hit London - the Redbridge roundabout at the bottom of the M11. Even at midnight the traffic is always a mess. Approaching town from the other direction - M40 to cut through Earl's Court/the Embankment - there's always traffic late at night.

After a day which started off with the most spectacular scenery, ending it with South Circular drudgery, when you're unbelievably knackered, is extremely painful. The other direction, you have Assynt and golden eagles to look forward to.

Used to drive to Leeds and back in a day (400 miles)

Another regular 'daily' trek was home to Plymouth, Plymouth to Tewkesbury, Tewkesbury to Cirencester, which was about 460 miles.

Oh to be young again!

Not the craziest here but Belfast-Silverstone via Cairnryan Ferry, A66 and M1.

Cairnryan-Silverstone works out as 365, did it in 2 stops. Tried 1 stop on the way back but that wasn't enough, you need to be at your sharpest on the roads at the end.

Did it in a 1.4 Chevrolet Aveo, at least it had cruise control.

Worst one for me was a working trip a few years ago:

Monday morning, flew out to Madrid. Worked there until 15:00 on Tuesday, then set off driving to Clermont-Ferrand. Got to my hotel in Clermont-Ferrand about 23:30. Spent Wednesday working in CFE, leaving at about 17:30. Drove to Kaiserslautern, arriving at the hotel some time after 01:00 on Thursday. Worked there until Friday lunchtime, drove to Frankfurt, flew home from there. Total distance was about 1950km in those drives.

I was younger then, and Zoom / Teams systems didn't exist. Wouldn't do it now.

Last summer we went on a European Tour.

Left Anncey with a plan to stop in Southern France, and then drive into Taberno (Southern Spain), however when we got to the Southern France hotel, we found out we had cocked up the booking, so had tea at a cafe and then decided to drive on.

Near as dam it we did a total of 1,000 miles 20 hours

Stopped for 90 minutes at 3:00 am in a dodgy Spanish service station car park, to be woken 20 mins later by the dogs (two choc labs) growling, a man was stood 10 meters from the car checking us out, hearing the dogs he legged it, so I set off again.

I`ve done central Switzerland to England and back three times in recent years. The trip each way has typically been around 700 miles/1100km and 11 hours driving time, I don`t find it any hardship at all, rather enjoy it actually. Boarding the Eurotunnel is normally not a long wait when I`ve travelled, not at peak holiday times, and with a fuel stop or two for the car and myself, and maybe a deviation along the way, like to Circuit of Reims-Gueux, the total trip time is usually a total of around 13-14 hours.

I`ve also done South Italy back to Switzerland, a slower trip with about 13 hours drive time/1200km and that was long enough, especially as you are dicing with the erratically driven Fiats & Lancias etc. Every time on Italian motorways you have to switch into high alert! Crossing the border back in Switzerland is so relaxing!

Yes but you can also cruise at 180 on the autostrada without any real issue. The Swiss drive with a stick up their arse and the police have 2 sticks.

Indeed, the Swiss drive within the tolerances of the law, whereas in Italy you can pass a cop on the autostrada at 160 and they just let you go!
