got the job of organising the club's annual 4 day trip and they have chosen yorkshire with a base in Skipton. So with one day getting there and one day getting back, that leaves me wih two days to fill withshoritsh drives either on nice driving roads or to places of interest. Bunch of supercars so sigle lane passing place type roads arent really suitable but open moorland with no plod insight - thats different!

ideas please

Depends on where you're based. As everyone knows the UK has terrible roads and tightly regulated speed limits. If you're anywhere south of Northampton and east of Birminghamk, I'd go to Belgium / southwest Germany. Esp. with supercars!

If you get good weather it's beautiful up here. This is the "classic" Dales loop:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Skipton/Settle/H...

Sounds like you want a tour not necessarily balls-out driving? For driving, this loop is a 6am start latest on a Sunday and home by 9am or you get caught up with farm traffic/dawdlers/bikers/cyclists/speed traps. When it's empty it has some of the best roads in the UK, but please be considerate of the locals still in bed (and sheep sleeping on the road!).

The B6255 from Ribblehead to Hawes is fantastic and deserves multiple passes, a regular Evo stomping ground. Buttertubs Pass (north of Hawes) is worth a run but more as a box ticking exercise in comparison.

The roads back to Grassington are more suited to Lotus suspension than supercars (Evora is witchcraft over here) but still great in places.

Greenhow Hill to Blubberhouses is included for those who see speedlimits as a mere inconvenience. You might do a pass to check its clear first...

Be careful of speed cameras on the A59 back to Skipton, a shame as its a great road when nobody is about.

As a scenic tour this route also hits all the high spots with Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, Ribblehead Viaduct, Buttertubs, Wenslydale Cheese, Aysgarth Falls etc.

Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington (excellent ) - and then a drive over the Wolds to the east. Whisper it , but the roads there are far , far nicer to drive than the Dales (or Moors ) unless you get up very, very early

Thanks. Thats a great help. Are there any decent pubs to stop for a bite along that route?

Personally I would continue North into the Pennines via Ravenstonedale and Kirkby Stephen then Brough to Middleton in Teesdale, Alston and beyond

You then have access to a superb network of fast moorland roads which are much quieter and frankly better than the Dales with plenty of passing opportunities

I've heard this said a few times before but I've yet to find these great Wolds routes myself. Would love some pointers or maps if you can, it would be great to explore somewhere new.

True enough. Depends on the groups appetite for miles and not all options are supercar friendly, but I think this would be a good extension for a longer day.

Masham is famous for its breweries too.

My plan would be to head to Malton (lovely road there from A170 nr Helmsley ) then just spend an afternoon heading E and SE - lots of forgotten minor roads , lightly trafficked and if the scenery is far less dramatic than the Dales it is still beguling . More like parts of Wiltshire than Yorkshire , and fewer bumbling motor homes than Wensleydale etc. Forget sat nav ,, they take all the spontaneity and fun away - just get a road atlas and busk it !

RE OP - I concur with view about further north - it is far , far nicer driving in the wilds of the North Pennines and beyond in Durham , Northumbria and Borders than anywhere in Yorkshire . And I speak as a Yorkshireman born and bred ...

We are a bunch of golden oldies driving F328s so the miles between toilet stops have to be limited!

A bit further north and the roads are better, our group largely based in Lancs come up to North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland quite often, a mixture of supercars. Bit of careful planning as a number of roads are a bit frustrating for wide cars. The advice for starting early is a good one too. Malham Cove is a nice stroll.

You could go and pay a visit to The Motorist. https://www.themotorist.com and a run over to the Black Lion @ Blakey Ridge is a good drive..

Skipton to Hawes on the back roads is a dream if its quiet. There is a great cheese factory in Hawes and the buttertubs pass is but a 10 minute drive from there and also a good shout to drive.

Another great route is the road up past Malham cove. go to the campsite right at the bottom of Malham cove and follow the road up past it and it just gets better from there. Narrow road but great view ahead

If you get up to Stanhope, there is a good run over the tops to Middleton in teesdale, up to Alston, then to Hexham and finally back to Stanhope, some tight bends and good hills,

I live in the Dales and if I was told I only had one drive left, this would be it.

Edited the link. Should work now, if you open in Google maps.
