This is a little local road which after the house is like a sprint track, just watch out for the tractors. Always fun for a quick detour on the way home and has a nice little chicane on it which is more fun coming back. I tend to prefer wide sweeping roads now so I can see ahead if there's any oncoming cars, police or speed vans. There's a great series of roads near Sherburn-On-Elmet which are now usually packed with either slow traffic or the occasional speed van.

You're right there are a lot of tractors!

Favourite road(s) are any of the three in Swaledale that start in either Reeth, Gunnerside and Thwaite, run parallel to one another over the tops and that ultimately end up in Askrigg.

The Thwaite one is Buttertubs. Clarkson does a better job of showing it in his Escort Cosworth than google maps. Hat tip to a recent Smith & Sniff episode btw wink

A396 - Black Cat Tearooms to Wheddon Cross.
Great bit of road. I was lucky enough to get a clear run last week!
Or take the B3227 from the Black Cat to South Molton, say hello to Fred at the Black Cat, I remember when he bought his Hesketh brand new. This used to be the A road before the North Devon Link road was built and has more than a few nice long corners.

Or from Wheddon Cross carry on to Timbescombe and turn right to follow the top road back to where it meets the A396 near Bury/Dulverton.

I’m not saying this is my favourite, but a friend has a place in this village in SW France. The nearest town with shops is Seissan. I always volunteer to get the croissants early in the morning on a deserted road. The smaller the car, the better. I’ve been on it in a Golf GTI, 911, Audi Allroad (challenging). But the most suitable car for this rural road was actually a hired Clio GT line with quite a poky engine.
