Now, I know I may be asking for the holy grail here, but after driving for 30+ miles at the weekend to find something close to being fun (and largely failing). Is there any chance of finding anything close to this within 15 miles if Wimbledon? I think my only option is to go south of Guildford before I get close to decent driving roads, which at over 40 mins to get there is a little far for a relatively quick drive.

Following with interest. Recently moved to Surbiton from Fulham so answers to your question could be useful to me too!

I live in Surbiton, my usual options for a spirited drive ar down towards goodwood going from the A3 and through Petworth, alternatively Surrey Downs.
For a really quick 'jaunt' up to boxhill and back.

Hey neighbour!
Maybe one day we'll be able to go for a drive!

Funnily enough i do those roads every couple of weeks, but they are a bit of a slog and 25 miles of motorway before you get there. They are indeed excellent though.

Boxhill is always a bit cyclist heavy for me.

There's some good roads west of Dorking off the A24 , Peaslake and Shere area , but again cyclists are the problem

and some of them are quite narrow and making progress could be hazardous if you meet someone coming the other way

doing the same .

And what did they actually inject...

I live in Kingston and like a drive down to Goodwood as well, to see what is going on at the race track. Some A3, mostly other roads..

Sadly options are getting more limited as time goes by.

I grew up in Ewell and had the A3 a few miles away with 3 lanes and a 70 limit in the 70s/80s - but now it's 50 East of the Ace of Spades complete with average cameras. frown

A24 from Leatherhead to Box Hill was great when it had 2 lanes and was NSL - now it's one lane with 40 average cameras in both directions.

A217 from Sutton to the M25 was dual carriageway and mostly 70 limit, but now that's all 40 with average cameras - other than the Mad Mile which is only 60, and I doubt that will last long.

There are some great windy roads between Ashtead, over Headley and on to Box Hill, but they are narrow so probably suit a motorbike better than a car.

The A24 after Dorking used to be fun, but I haven't been there for ages so it may not be now.

Thankfully I've lived 30 or so miles away for the last 15 years and have found a few decent roads here - so I'll keep them to myself!
