Lake district roads

Can anyone name they're favoured roads and why? I'm after some nice scenic roads for next weekend when we visit. Weve been before but cant name anything off the top of my head and dont remember a lot

last time in the LD i went out at 6am in the morning to enjoy the car as the roads were pretty deserted

which will give you some really good routes but don't try the first 2 during the day or try to have any driving 'fun' the as roads are full to capacity with tourists dawdling along at 15mph and camper and caravan drivers who have never driven on a narrow lakeland stone walled lined 'b' or 'c' road, the third on is our Sunday morning bike route but is a safer bet to do midweek in a car.

There aren't really any roads in the central LD suitable for summertime fast driving. To narrow, knarly and busy. Better to relax and soak up the scenery. If you want driving roads you need to head East either to the Dales or North Pennines up to Alston and beyond.

This.

Head up to Penrith then up to Alston then down to Middleton-in-Teesdale, then head towards Tebay via Kirkby Stephen. Much quieter and faster roads than the Lakes.

After them recommendations I'll probably head up them places sometimes I like getting out and about driving and rambling.

My stock answer is Keswick to Buttermere via Borrowdale and over the Honister Pass. It's a lot of fun even though for most of it you'll be doing 30-40mph. Lots of flowing corners with elevation changes and you go along the edge of Derwent Water, through glorious Borrowdale and up over Honister which is great fun, then down to stunning Buttermere. You can go back over the Newlands Pass although I don't think it's as good to drive, but there are some fantastic views. You need to be out very early or very late or go out of season. Be aware of deer through Borrowdale and sheep on Honister and along Buttermere.
