Scenic Roads or Driving Roads?

The difference is driving roads is for faster sports cars where the driver can turn on the taps with their sports car and Scenic roads are for normal standard cars just cruising through the beautiful scenery?

I'm from Birmingham and like to know the best scenic driving road trip route, preferably close to Birmingham/West Midlands. I understand Scotland has the best road A82 but 5hrs on boring motorways to get there is a game changer really.

If more drivers bore in mind that one person's 'driving road ' is someone else's 'scenic road ' , and vice versa , we'd see a little less vitriol spouted .

You're from Birmingham and have never even thought of driving over the border into Wales

Although I don't think this is a real, living person, as they asked a very similar question last year...and their other posts tend to be a bit 'special'.

Christ, you're about an hour from some of the best driving......just head out towards stourbridge - > bridgnorth -> WALES

multiple choices.....head for brecon then south through the heads of the valleys..... head for Aberystwyth ........head north Wales via lake Vernwy, Bala, Snowdon.... EVO TRIANGLE

Okay I'm from east of Birmingham. Which routes do I follow on google maps to Snowdonia or do you know the best route to snowdonia to explore the best roads there and back to bham?

I put in snowdonia in google maps and its saying 2hrs 38mins along the A5 route.

Is there better routes than A5 but doesn't take that much longer to get there? Or is the A5 route good not boring and shall I stick to this route?

If are just after scenic views, the motorway to Scotland isn't too bad itself once you are north of Manchester.

You've got lots of roads available to you, and they'll be quieter than anything you'll get around Birmingham.

Don't try to rush it. I find some of the best roads (whether scenic or driving) by just exploring.

If you just want to get somewhere quick, to use as a base for exploring, then take the quickest road you can find (M54 and A5 probably), and then turn down any road you think looks inviting. Some will take you down into valleys, some will take you alongside lakes, others will take you up goat tracks through the mountains with nowhere to turn around (not recommended in a 2 seater sports car).

I'd also recommend using Google Maps Streetview before you go, so that you can see if any of the roads look particularly rough, boring, or with dead ends after 20 minutes.

You could do the Llanberris pass when youre up there too

I went from Berkshire to North Wales with a group of mates last month and we did Vyrnwy, Bala and Snowdon over a few days and had a great time on some fantastic roads that were almost empty.

It would take ALOT of tourists to fill all the rural roads of Wales!

Time of year and time of day is the big factor here.....most roads around the big tourist towns (Bala, Llanberis, Aberystwyth) will be snarling on a summers weekend, particularly bank hols, particularly during the day.

However, get up early and you'll be laughing.....particularly on a Sunday. And when I say early, I mean, dawn. You'll have the roads pretty much to yourself.

I went up to Cheshire for a long weekend and used a route I discovered a few years ago when the M6 was a stop/start crawl - not unusual!

So I left after 8pm on Monday evening and used the A49 from Weaverham to Whitchurch then the A41 down to the M54 at Junction 3, before joining the M6 Southbound.

I wouldn't describe either of those roads as scenic but with hardly any traffic I had a fantastic drive! And they aren't far from Birmingham.
