Hi everyone im new one here and just wanted to say that how glad i am i live in Wales. And feel sorry for you the rest !
We have the best roads in the U.K they are true roads and testing for anyone who thinks they are something! But be warned there are no Crash Barriers here where you want them to be so get it wrong and its minus a car and serious injury(thats if you were going at any kind of speed in the first place)and no sharp corner driver information signs to warn you you make your own judgement! and being a road rally course car driver i see them all and dont take too much notice of whats on our doorstep. Then i read posts here asking where the best roads are in South England things like that!We see it all when people from out of Wales come to town espically this time of the year with tourists and drive on our roads, they thought they were fast till they came to Wales.
Also living so near the World Famous Forests in South Wales where we regulary play about on the roads only you guys see on T.v where the Solbergs, and LOebs the Worlds best drivers are sent to test their driving.
Thanks for reading!

Whilst I'm in Wales at UniI'm trying to make the most of the the roads. A real highlight so far has been the blast up through the Epynt Ranges last weekend to get to the service park for the Welsh International.
I also really like the A4069 over black mountain. I don't really dare venturing into some of the smaller lanes just in case it all goes a little but wrong!

You obviously haven't visited Scotland enough to see the error in this statement!

Best roads in the "British Isles" are on the Isle of Man. It's all about speed limits you see, or the lack of them.

start with this is a forum so its open to opinion,i have driven in Scotland and thats it nothing special.but have the rest of you ever driven in wales and i dont mean on the M4 either until you have you wont know what i mean and until youve done it at high speed through the night on the lanes you cant think what i mean.By the way the roads i drive dont have no cameras far from it really just pure driver roads i think the grannies are faster here than some of you lot!
Nightdriver ive driven over the ranges also mental roads arent they seriously quick in places and technical,Black Mountains is good also!

I've driven extensively over Wales and Scotland, and good as Wales is, it can't compare to the Highlands.

Mind you, the whole of the UK is for shandy drinkers compared to France, IMO.

I have blasted all over wales and im my opinion its good but its not got all the best roads. There are some real crackers in england and scotland that can kill you if you dont give them your full attention. Some are only short sections but others are full length. I would say until you have driven every road in Britain you are miss informed. I'm sure there are many roads i have never driven that will be better than the ones i have.

I agree - not all the best roads in the Uk are not in Wales. The road to Charlbury in Oxfordshire (turn right off the Burford-Chipping Norton road- I'm hopeless with numbers) is amazing but very dangerous - easy to roll your car into a ball - and Exmoor and North Devon has some amazing roads as do the South Downs (Hants Sussex borders).

However, some of the Welsh Roads are brilliant - a couple of years ago we went for a week in deepest darkest NW Wales (near Bardsey Island I think - certainly an hour north and west of Portmeirion). We went by Arosa Diesel which was a bit sad but we went cross country through Brecon, Builth Wells, Porth Madoc etc. and the roads (hour after hour of them) were fantastic - oh for a 6R4

More recently we went from Chepstow - Usk - Abergavenny in the S" - the roads were amazing and almost completely empty. Shorter than the trip to North Wales but just as satisfying and just as tiring. When I got home I had 'TVR tinituss' - I could have sworn that there was a 'bike going up and down the road outside. It turned out to be a TVR going up and down the gears inside my own head. Brilliant!

Picking up a M3 CSL and driving up to Cheshire through Wales tomorrow to get to know the car, but looking at checkyourspeed.org.uk and arrivealive.org.uk those great roads are going to crammed with mobile camera vans!!! So not so sure the roads are that good anymore.
