I believe the phrase I am looking for rhymes with "clucking bell"

If you mean the bit that keeps slipping, it was a suspension killer a few years ago, heading back towards Sheffield.

Is the pass fully repaired yet? I went down in march and it was on traffic lights. Going back up to sheffield this weekend coming and would like to go across it again if its open smile Anything to note on it like a fixed camera now or something?

Cheers.

It's supposed to be fixed by 19 September.

Went over last weekend and it appeared to be finished, no sign of any hardware up there.

The closure signs were still up though, most odd.

Heard the camera van was out at 08.30 a while ago. Take care, it's the blue camouflaged one they're using.

I went over the Snake about ten days ago and the signs said 'Open at weekends only'. I didn't notice how long that's for though.

Did anyone get caught out by the unmarked green transit style camera van on the westbound layby yesterday. I am waiting for the fine to drop through the letterbox

Im not sure what threshold they will be prosecuting from, if its the ACPO 10% + 2mph then owt over 57mph wins 3 points. Just hope ive got a bit of speedo error!!!!

The problem with the Snake Pass is that it has the reputation for being a "killer road". Therefore you get all the utter, utter cretins driving along it at 30-40mph, not even daring to overtake a truck thats doing 20mph up a hill. FFS! The road isn't a "killer road", it's just a piece of tarmac, and that could never kill you. It's how people drive on it that kills people. The cameras are always in spots were it is safe to overtake, but you daren't in case there is a camera there. Meanwhile you have to follow Derick & Doris in there stbox Nissan Praire all the way to fking Glossop at 30mph. And sods law dictates that when you get to a section without solid white lines, there is a stream of oncoming traffic, and when it is solid white lines, nowt comes the other way. then, when you finnaly pull out to overtake, Derick the dhead will drop it into 3rd and boot it, just to try and stop you overtaking. And if you don't manage to overtake and pull back in behind him, he will then drop his speed back down to 30mph again.

I fking hate going over the A57 now, unless it is the middle of the night. Far too many nimby tts on that road, and the frustration of being stuck behind the worthless s just puts me in a fowl mood for any meeting I'm on my way to in Manchester.

And have you noticed how they always brake. Oh no, a slight corner, must brake. Oh no, a car is coming towards us, must brake. Oh no, the road is going up a hill, must brake. Oh no, theres a tiny puddle at the side of the road, must brake.

JUST GET THE fk OUT OF MY WAY YOU WORTHLESS TOSSER. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE CONFIDANCE TO DRIVE PROPERLY, THEN TAKE THE fkING TRAIN YOU tt! banghead shoot

I think I need to go for a little lie down.
Standing ovation over here!!!! Just too busy, and its what pisses me off more than anything. A great road, lovely views ruined by too much traffic.

Ban the lorries and a minimum speed limit of 70. For the corners biggrin

Out of 10 daytime trips, and 200 miles on the snake pass, I think your lucky if 20 of those are not following something.

Pick your time carefully, and you've got a great drive...

Dawn is good...smile

I also remember fondly a storming run just after lunch on a Friday, when I met no vehicles from end to end, Ladybower to Glossop.

Agree with others about the fact that a good drive *can* still be had accross the Snake at a certain time of day. The trouble is that nowadays you can't go out there in the light of day, any day, without being suspicious that Derbyshire Plod will be out with their unmarked Talivan (not that the marked ones wre the most well-liveried up anyway). I thank God I have been along there a lot so I knew that their favourite ambush point is the layby at the end of the long straight to the west of Ladybower: the numbers of (westbound) people they must catch pootling over the brow of that hill at a perfectly reasonable speed and overtaking on the safest stretch of the whole road must be astronomical.
As an aside, I've heard that the A621 is now also 50'd with unmarked enforcement frown are there any NSL A-Roads left in Derbyshire now?
