Also some great roads around Sherburn in Elmet and Monk Fryston. Avoid going through South Milford 'cause of the speed humps. North West of Sherburn there are some excellent "whites" (Codhill Lane, Copley Lane etc) which take you towards Aberford and Lotherton Hall. There's a bikers cafe around here, and bikers certainly know good roads.
Gotta look out for *some* of them bikers too, three people (through people at work and my partners family) know bikers who have gone through the pearly gates around there in the last few years
Not a day goes by in summer without some of the people who commute from over that way telling me how another nearly ran into them on their way home from work (i unfortunately had one nearly kill himself when he hit me head-on on my side of the road a few years back)
So good roads, just keep your bloody eyes peeled and be ready to mount the verges when they come round the bends, knee scraping the centreline and their head right where your offside wing wants to be, while thinking that making up that extra 10th of a second to get to the Milk Bar for a fresh orange is worth risking their life

Yup, this is my manor, right near my house! Some good roads, I often blat around here, then up towards tadcaster and the A64 for some further afield play.
My favourite bit is the drop past coldhill pon heading in sherburn direction - 90 left in 2nd gear, wooot.
As for bikers, just avoid the place when it sunny...
There not a bad bunch, and its a good laugh to go up to the milkbar and have a wander round in the summer, lots of nice chrome and carbon parked up.
Quite a few car meets there aswell, good VW meet on most months which is fun.

Finally got a good route for driving now but my god it takes it's toll on my pathetic French brakes!
I just can't wait to have a car that is in some way suited to the kind of driving i do. It's
so frustrating not being able to fully experience the roads round here without
the overwhelming smell of burnt brakes! (not that that is a bad smell btw!)
Has anyone got a spare F430 i can have?

Was visiting my Sister in Leeds recently and decided to go for a drive. Only in the tintop but I almost had kittens on the B6451 heading North from Otley. I swear I had all 4 wheels off the ground at one point and the drops, dips and sweepers are brilliant. Loads of good lines of sight too so you can use the whole road safely. I'm sure this is only a tiny corner of what the area has to offer but its the only bit I know (for now )

North Yorks is a driving paradise.
And if you're lucky you get to drive the empty, camera free sweeping roads of East Yorks on your way to North Yorks Moors...Ahh of course-the NYMR. Well spotted. I thought it looked more North Yorks moors than E Yorks, you're right although the Hole of Horcum usually has more model aeroplanes about, the Driffield road is great but the hills around there are softer and more chalky.
I think I should get out more......
