A406 v M25 – quickest to M1

Guys I live rather close to the M11, so I usually take that to the M25 to get the M1. Recently however, I started to think whether I should take the A406 and join the M1 from there.

I am planning a trip to Cumbria this evening, will leave around 6ish. Given that I will get stuck in traffic around Luton (M1), Birmingham and then Manchester/Preston (M6). I would like to avoid traffic down south.

Anyway, back to my original question: which route A406 v M11/M25 any views?

The A406 would only be quicker early morning or late at night. Bearing in mind it's also littered with speed cameras along that stretch, probably not worth the hassle.

why not m11, a14, m1/m6 then m1 to a50 to m6 to cumbria, or m1 - a1, scotch corner, a66 to cumbria
or m6 from a14 to cumbria

or a1 to a66 to cumbria
