The latest complication is, as I didn't realise, looking at the nordschleife public times, even in the height of summer they seem to prefer to let the public run at weekend and evenings and, consequently, I can only drive from 17:30-ish to 19:30 (http://www.nuerburgring.de/events.286.0.html)

So, were I to leave Blighty on, say, Wednesday 23rd July I should drive straight there, leave luggage in the hotel and blast around in the cool of the evening. Not a bad thing, but not optimal dammit.

Hi guys I’ve been silently watching this thread for a while and decided to take the plunge. The plan is I head off a coupe of days before the wife, she’s on a cheap flight because she really doesn’t get cars and driving ect, and meet up again in Marseille before heading over to Canne, Nice and Monaco for 8 nights.

Once I’ve left her off again at Marseille I’m back on the road home again. What I need now a good route to follow feel free to make suggestions, they will all be received thankfully.

One of my friends who is coming with us maintains that the Stelvio pass is not as good as others in the area. Can anyone corroborate and maybe suggest how we could do the Stelvio plus other great/better passes in the area?

Of course... what "not as good" means in this context is not clear - more spectacular, better road surface, more flowing...?
