Stelvio Pass in early May???

Does anyone know if the Stelvio Pass is likely to be open in early May, websites I've been looking at indicate it doesn't open until June! I guess it will vary on a daily basis depending on conditions, but is it even opened up at all before June?

I'm planning a road-trip down to the south of France and into Northern Italy and was hoping to include the Stelvio Pass - looks like I'll have to find some other roads!

Early May very very doubtful.

I hope you packed your winter tyres.

UK summer tyres in May on the Stelvio
would be suicide.

Mind you, the side drops are so large,
you'd have plenty of time to write a note.
