Benidorm to see the in-laws

Looking to travel down to see the in-laws for a few days.
Need an interesting route down and back will be away for 14 days and spending 3-4 days with in-laws. (They do not live in Benidorm about an hour away).
We have options for the ferry either the usual dover departure or we could do the Santender route. We have travelled around Green Spain before and were very impressed with the scenery and roads.
Any suggestions?

Luckily enough they are a far enough away from Benidorm in a traditional Spainish village with no bars run by Betty and Dave from Bedford, no karaoke, no full english, no irish bars, no sticky Vicky, and very few ex pats.
My advice having done much of this route a number of times in the past few years.
1. Presumably you love drving so forget the "pride of Bilbao" boat to Bilbao or Santander. Costs more, takes longer, is full of pikeys, and ven in Summer you have 50% chance of some rough see and feeling sick.
2. Most of Northern France is pretty dull driving and scenery wise, so nail on the motorway to get it over and done with.
3. Once you enter the southern half of France you have quite a few choices of roads. You can keep a good pace on most of the RN roads, and TomTom is your friend for warning of speed cameras.
4. There is motor museum in Sarlat (south of Brive) which makes a good place for a night stop one if your get an early ferry or tunnel crossing.
5. Head down to Pau (another motor museum), and then take one of the three Pyrenees passes from Pau to cross the hilly bits.
6. When in Spain plan your trip and drving around the nights stops at Parador Hotels. Get yourself signed up on their Amigos programme to get some discounted rooms, and free covered parking for your elise.
7. Eat lots of young animals (suckling lamb, suckling pig, veal etc.), very few vegetables, and drink lots of Rioja.
8. On the return trip taken a different route, different Paradors, go a bit further east to take in the Millau bridge in France.
9. Take lots of photos. Post here. Lie back with smug grin, and start planning the next one.
