Hi All,

Myself and a couple of friends are doing the drive from London (East) to Walberswick (a small village in Suffolk, near Southwold).

Usually I would take the A12 the whole way, but having recently purchased a Porsche I was thinking it could be a good opportunity to hit some of the nicer country roads in that part of the country, possibly stopping off at a nice country pub for some food on the way.

Any particular recommendations? I have had a search through the threads, but having a terrible sense of geography I find it a bit hard to always know what parts of the UK people are referencing!

Thanks very much,

Adam

Beautiful little place!

Well I assume it still is as last time I went, was in short trousers. Also can only give a driving perspective of facing backwards in the jump seats of my Dad's Saab 96 V4 Estate.....

On arrival you must take the 'ferry' across the river to eat in the pub opposite.

Hi All,
Thanks for the responses so far...
If anyone knows of any fun drives in and around this area that would also be great!
Thanks,
Adam

I live in Suffolk and regularly take the Caterham to the coast and there are some cracking little windy roads all around the area...

Personally, I would go roughly the following route:

M11 from London - A11 (there will be better roads south of here- but I don't really know the area)...
Get on A11 & take first exit towards Saffron Walden
B1052 from Saffron Walden to Linton
Turn right at Linton onto the A1307 towards Haverhill
A143 Haverhill to Bury St Edmunds
A14 Bury St Edmunds - Stowmarket (watch out for 2x Scameras in 50mph section near Haughley)
A1120 from Stowmarket to Yoxford at the A12 (cracking road but also marked as a 'tourist route' so you might want to watch your timings to avoid the Blue Rinse Brigade in their Rover 200 / 400/ 600 / 75's)
Crossover A12
B1122 to Middleton
Left in Middleton to Westleton on B1125
Stop at Westleton Crown for a pint / lunch (nice place...)
Turn right c. 4 miles north of Westleton towards Walberswick.

Overall pretty good roads- but I can make no guarantees on traffic...

Good luck!"

Thanks for the advice. Ended up taking a mix of this route, and a couple of the roads marked on the biking website. Beautiful day for it anyway!
If anyone wants to know the route I took, let me know,
Thanks
Adam
