As much as I like Buttertubs, and I've done it several times on the 100rwhp Buell as well as in the 500 Griff, you can't go fast on the really good bits. It's still great fun trying. More so when the weather's a little bleak and at the start or finish of the summer season when it's less busy.
If you really want good fun to compliment doing Buttertubs, then do Buttertubs heading northerly to Thwaite. When you've got to the bottom of the Tubs at Thwaite, take a left to Keld (direction Kirkby Stephen). It can't be more than a mile to Keld, and be careful for kids and dogs and farm activity and twisty turns, keep your eyes peeled for a narrow not so obvious right turn to Tan Hill. Be careful as it's immediately steep tight hairpins until it opens up at the top. Keep going to Tan Hill. You'll see the pub eventually (Britain's highest I believe), and when you do take the right turn. You've now got about 12 miles of remote moorland road that gives great views of the road ahead as well as the scenery. You can really give it some serious poke along this stretch, though apart from the obvious cautions to take, you will find yourself watching and anticipating the humps and bumps in the road with good throttle control rather than on off braking. Trust me, if you don't already know this road, you'll love it. Be careful, and maybe see you up there one day!

I quite agree, I prefer this road to the Buttertubs, but I do it in the opposite direction, coming down from Tan Hill. Planet Claire said:

Ah, sounds like you missed the other road though coz you'd be going up to Tan Hill from Reeth on the B6270. In which case the pub would be on your right when you approach, and immediately in front of the pub you'd turn left towards Keld and Thwaite. That's if I can read my map correctly of course. Even if you get lost around these parts, which I often do on purpose, there's no better way imo of finding some great undiscovered roads. Enjoy.Rocket Pepper said:

Enjoy.Once I've dropped down from the Buttertubs I'd then turn left after Simonstone and then make my way back down Wensleydale, usually on the back road rather than the A684.
