Got most of my euro-trip planned, but still stuck over best route from Milan to Innsbruck. Any ideas? Have dismissed Stelvio as are doing Grimsel and Simplon earlier in the trip. Would ideally like nice fast flowing A/B roads to make reasonable progress but have more interest than motorways ... was thinking about SS36/7 via St. Moritz ... or is that just a slow trudge behind lorries and lots of towns/villages to navigate.

Any ideas gratefully received!

How about the Splugenpass?

Go up past Como and it's a little North from there. On the other side is a Swiss single lane motorway (A13) through a series of quite spectacular ravines...

You could then either go through Liechenstein (to tick the box) and St Anton or Davos - although not used these routes.

Just a suggestion, and the first bit is tiresome and involves a schlep from Milan towards Verona on the A4 (??) Autostrada. Look for the signs for Bolzano and follow that (autostrada all the way again). As you approach Bolzano, there should be signs for Merano. Head towards Merano.

From Merano, head towards Solden, Langenfeld, and Oetz then pick up the E60 towards Innsbruck.

Sorry about not knowing the road numbers, but when we drive to Villafranca we stop off in Langenfeld. The route above is basically the reverse route (we drive back from Villafranca via Milan / Strasbourg / Reims).

Thanks - both sound good - like the idea of the last one, as that gives the option on staying on the motorway for the brenner pass if running late or weather is cr*p.

Off tonight - back in 10 days :-)
