I've just moved to the west side of Brum from Brighton and I'm rather missing the roads around devil's dyke which used to be on my doorstep. I'm now just off the A456... So far I've found a couple of nice bits on this road on the way to Kidderminster and also up the A449 from there to Wolverhampton. However, neither of these roads get out of the urban sprawl for long. Also, any dual carriageway tends to be too straight as I've only got a little 1.6 MX5 and don't really get much joy from accelerating.

Thanks,

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel,
I live just off the A456 3 miles west of Bewdley. You really need to head further out than you are at the moment to get any chance of lighter traffic and good roads. Suggest you look at the following on your map.
Would recommend;
1/A456 from Callow Hill towards Tenbury Wells but cut accross to Worcester at Newnham Bridge.
2/A4117 off the A456 at Callow Hill towards Cleobury/Ludlow. If you go through Cleobury this takes you towards Ludlow. You could then go on A49 & find yourself a loop.
Guess these are a little further out but I have found you will have to go out this way for better scenery & a chance of less traffic.
Let me know how you get on.
Rgs Chris.

Always loved the A458 from Stourton to Bridgnorth, but haven't had a clear run at that for years. The A449 used to be good until it was crapped on by some seriously dubious traffic management measures yonks ago. That said, having moved from there to Northamptonshire, I'd kill for those sorts of roads around me now!

Heading further west is the best option, but just have a play about on multimap and stick to the orange roads. Looks like there's a small but good loop just south of Bridgnorth, but I've never tried it. Fear not, you're the right side of the Fosse Way, so there's plenty to choose from.

Thanks guys.

Just did a big triangle, first up the A458 to Bridgnorth, then down the B4364 to nearly Ludlow, then back along the A4117 and A456. Was all very lightly trafficked, great fun, though the wet road and frequent standing water/small rivers across the road did make things interesting! The view from Clee hill was fantastic!

I will be going to Wales for some day trips but it's great to find a route that only takes a few hours (and £10 of fuel).

Now I just have to get a new alternator belt... bit of a comedown to get back and find I don't have one anymore! Still, I should be able to do the job myself... I think.

Gabriel, you're unknowingly on the edge of some of the best roads in the Midlands.....

1. I organised a hoon earlier this year for the Shropshire / Staffs crowd. PM me for the route if you like as parts of it are not too far from you.

2. Thinking from the top of my head, from Kidderminster, follow the signs for Bewdley and from there follow the signs for Ludlow (A456). Eventually, you'll get to a T-Junction at Newnham Bridge. Turn right towards Ludlow. As you leave Burford / Tenbury, look out for a right turn for Clee Hill. Take this. At the junction with the A4117, turn right. Through Cleobury Mortimer, and at the low end of the town, there will be a left turn signposted for Bridgnorth. Turn left. Follow this road all the way to Bridgnorth. Once in Bridgo, follow the signs back to Kiddy.

The above will just give you a flavour.....
