Hi Everyone,

My friends and I were hoping to plot out a decent route for half a days blatting, starting and ending in east London, ideally with a decent pub for some lunch half-way through, for this weekend.

I understand that Essex has some decent roads sometimes used for the advanced driving training and routes, but not quite sure which areas / routes are best.

Hoping that someone might be able to recommend either some cool individual roads or an entire route for us to follow!

Thanks in advance!

Adam

Hi Adam,

I'll need to have a think, but two of the best roads I know in Essex are:

The B1021 Southminster to Bradwell on Sea

The B184 all the way from Chipping Ongar to Saffron Walden and any of the roads around the more northerly part of this route (around Thaxsted etc)

They're probably the best roads I've seen in the South East and I'm sure there are more. Essex is certainly a good call - it's far more rural than people realise and there are some awesome roads. In that respect, I slightly regret moving to London.

(The roads around Hanningfield resevoir can be quite entertaining if they're quite too.)

just did the b1021 tonight

Was quite good but not that funny in the pissing rain in the dark with r888's hehe

The hanningfield resevoir roads are quite good.

To be fair most of the roads around Burnham,Southminster etc are not bad.

Have you ever driven through southminster and just kept going? Very bizarre and almost a bit scary, as if your really not meant to be down there, you drive for miles and miles and just come to a farm house at the end. Feels very very remote down there, lots of inbreeding going on i,d imagine hehe

In the end headed to Colchester via the b1026 on the way out, and the b1022 on the back - of the two the b1026 was definately the better, less traffic and more interesting turns.
A few other nice roads out there, used the bestbikersroads website for a couple of other ideas!
Thanks for the responses.
Cheers,
Adam
