Just been reading the Evo triangle sticker thread and came across the Oopnurthring sticker and google map
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&a...

Anybody any photos of bits of the said route?

Was aware of the Snake pass and also cat n fiddle, but didn't know there was a way of interconnecting the two into one big 'circuit'!

Glossop's only an hour or so from me so would be keen to get over there - anything to watch out for? Also, what sort of distance is it and roughly how long to do??

Sorry, I'm normally too busy driving it to stop and take photos wink

This is part of the Woodhead Pass around the area you turn off onto Woodhead Road (i.e. A628 to A6024)

This is one of the straighter bits of the A6024 Woodhead Road

Here's a few more images of the Woodhead to Holmfirth bit courtesy of another site - http://www.rural-roads.co.uk/a6024/a60241.shtml

The A616 bit is the most 'uninteresting' as it's just a route to get between the B6105 and A6102 - it can be a nice road, but it gets quite busy as it's one of the main routes.

First off, the oopnorthring doesn't conect the snake pass and the cat & fiddle, they are miles away from each other frown (I know a nice route between them though smile)
Second, the first route I suggested as the oopnorthring is not the best, and mmm-five suggested adding the extra bit to take in Holmfirth and Holme Moss, which is a cracking downhill smile
I have some video of the first 2 parts of this, and a bit on Holme Moss:
(2 in the dark, sorry, but you get the idea)
1; the snake pass http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/Videos/snake%20pass%2...
2; strines http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/Videos/strines%20at%2...
3; holme moss http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/videos/mine_on_holme_...

That should give you a flavour of the area. For pictures, we did a photoshoot a few years ago on the Snake Pass: http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/gallery/gallery.asp?d...
Think we should have a pistonheads Oopnurthring meet? biggrin

Definitely hit Holme Moss as well from the main Woodhead Pass to Holme/Holmfirth.
On the way back over, carry on into Glossop along Woodhead Road which is another great piece of tarmac.

I still remember the first time I came over the tops from Glossop into the Woodhead valley. I was on the bike making my way back home feeling a bit glum and sodden wet. Suddenly I noticed what appeared to be these large lakes with massive hills behind coming out of the mist and I nearly crashed I was so surprised!
You can do no wrong by just driving around enjoying the place as its so beautiful around there and the roads are top notch to boot! I really miss it sometimes and can't believe it took me 20 years to find that area even though I live just a few miles away.

Holme Moss is a hidden gem, the only people who really use it are drivers out for a good time so its a nice place to go. Too short though and I prefer it at night so you can see whats coming, good road though.

No problem smile

Love it at night, like you say, from around the first corner at the bottom, you can see pretty much the whole thing at night, turns it into a mini ring practice session! Often do it on the way to work, as I live not far away and drop down through Holme, cut across Digley reservoir and then head across the moors into Oldham smile (even better on a sunny summers morning at 6am biggrin)

One of the first times I introduced a mate to Holme Moss we were stuck behind a focus going into the first bends after the village, Right hand hairpin type corner, gear down to second, go for the inside (I must add, visability was good, was checking for people decending a long time before the overtake) and just experience grip grip grip.. then the dududududur sound of understeer, luckily he rescued it, but did take the rest of the route a tiny bit slower.

Might head up this weekend actually, there or Goathland i think. smile

Did Holme Moss last night on the way to work. Not a single other vehicle on it, just me, the road, the rain and the mist at the top. The descent into Holme was equally deviod of traffic to, bliss! biggrin

Yep, agree, nice video, definately fancy a meet for this route, just not sure if my citroen c4 is going to be quick enough to keep up with the rest of you! It might say c4 by loeb, but its only a 1.6. still would be fun trying to keep up!driving
