Route from Uxbridge to Nottingham

Can anyone recommend a great driving route from Uxbridge to Nottingham (please dont say the M1 or M40)

My family are in Northwood and I live in Uppingham, just south of point F on the above map so know that route well! I often go A1>A47 though because I hate the M1!!

Apart from the first bit which you must do on one of the motorways to get out of London the bit from C onwards is great. In fact, E onwards is excellent, particularly the stretches from Rockingham to Uppingham and Oakham to Melton - fast, flowing and lots of up/down hill sections - especially if you can time it to avoid traffic

Just to add that the Rock>Uppingham & Oakham>Melton bits are so good that I often use them very early or late in the day on purpose just for the hell of it, without any reason to go anywhere other than drive

I haven't done a lot of that route for yrs now but I have done the bit that longers mentioned..
