went out for the day with the old man yesterday, heading up toward the northumberland coast. we were just gonna go directly there, all the way up the a1 then hang a right into longhoughton and boulmer up through christonm bank and onto the coast, however we firstly come across tailbacks due to a nasty caravan accident (broke free and up on the bank facing the carriageway), just past the ncl airport turn off then surprise surprise tailbacks again where it goes from duel to single lanes at the a697 junction! decided not to sit with everyone else and head up the 697 through longhorsely, longframlington and upto wooler. we then turned right at wooler onto the b6438 then 6439 to head back east across the country back toward the dreaded a1. very open roads, lots of long straights to make good progress and plenty of decent scenery to look at with the bonus of hardly any caravans for some reason!we then crossed straight over the a1 which was nose to tail caravans/wagons and onto the b1342 which takes you straight into bamburgh. through bamburgh and onto seahouses to get some fish and chips (neptunes of course!), then onto beadnell for a walk around the bay.took the back roads out of beadnell toward the a1 south then a nice free blast back home to consett! cracking few hours, only a couple of jams at the beginning but would definitely do that trip again!
