Route Alcester Warwickshire to Barnsley
Discussion
I drive to Barnsley a lot and am getting fed up of the M42, M1 combination, especially wilth miles and miles of 50mph average speed limit.
Does anyone know a good route from the Midlands to Barnsley or Doncaster? I dont want the trip to take for ever, but if the roads are good it will be a chance to air the G33
Thanks
Nick

The obvious one is use the A38 for a change of route, although it's not especially inspiring. For a little more interest you could head north east on the A46 and pick up the A444 from Coventry, that's an enjoyable drive once you get past Nuneaton, then turn onto the A38 at Burton.
Better to bypass Coventry -A45 -A46 -M6/J2 -3 , then A444( DC -soon to be 50).Alternative -though both routes have ever-changing low limits is to go up A5 - A38 - last bit once past M42 is quite good -though don't know if the limit slasher has been at work there .Used to be lots of cameras on the old A5 -

Thanks folks. I thought I might go up the fosse past Coventry, and work it out from there.

Go far enough and you'll pick up the A5 - the section south of the M42 still has sensible limits - Nick
Another thought - after A38 -saw the bit about average speed - have a look at a map - A61/A6175 - takes you back on M1 after the 50 limit .
