Right, I'm not trying to encourage speeding. But I do junctions 7 to 13 every day on the m25 to work and back. I always sit at around 75 on my speedo, so probably a true 70. But I am constantly getting passed by cars going a fair bit quicker. Now there's lines for speed cameras under every gantry on the m25, so what's the deal? Are they there to scare us and can I afford to go a bit quicker? Or are all these people speeding getting caught every day? I've always wondered about the m25. Am I safe sitting at 85? What do others do?

7 to 10 there are no camera's , but there is occasional plod sitting with laser gun. You should be safe at 90 to 100 but there is a risk.

You can sit quite happily at 85 to 90, 10 through 13. Providing there is no limit on the gantrys.

Excellent, 7 to 10, is that crawley to leatherhead? I'll prob sit at 85ish then. Just getting annoyed at a clear run and taking 50 mins to get home cus I'm sitting right on the speed limit being paranoid.

New to the M25 are we ? The pace of life in M25 land
is quite a bit faster than other parts of the country.

In practice, coppers don't seem to bother until vehicles
are doing 90 mph real, about 95 mph indicated,
on the section from J7 to J10. The sheer volume of
traffic doing those sorts of speeds rather precludes
the police ticketing them all.

On the controlled section from J10 to J13, make that 80 mph real.
While the coppers are forced to be relaxed due to traffic
speeds, the cameras aren't.

Drive left and please let faster traffic pass.

Newish I guess, although I live 2 mins from junction 13 I only used to used it occasionally, but now use it for my daily commute. Sounds like an indicated 85 is a safe bet. Cheers for the info, and I always stay left unless I'm shifting on motorways. Nothing works than someone blocking the fast lane doing 70!

It seems like the M25 doesn't even follow normal 'Keep Left' rules!

Every time I have been on it, it has resembled an American highway with people crawling along in whichever lane they so please.

Probably because it normally resembles a car park.

any road with more than 1 lane near a city will have its fair share of middle lane morons. The further you get from these cities the better it seems to get. Congestion doesnt help, people dont move back into lane 1 because no one else does and they know if they do, they will end up stuck behind a 56mph lorry and no way of getting out because of the "carpark" in the middle lane.

If the police did something about it im sure the m25 wouldnt need 4 lanes... I mean whats the point of building a 4th lane when lane 1 isnt used?

I used to find the stretch 7-10, in both directions, was always quite useful to practice my 'circling' mad techniques due to the complete lack of lane discipline. furious

I often use the first 2 lanes and I'm the quickest motor on the stretch tbh. smile

That was some time ago, so to the OP, I'd take the other guys suggestions regards your ave. speed.
