A question for all you Alpine Hooners out there, any and all advice welcome.

I will be doing the drive this August with my family in my Porsche 930 and want to break the drive up into 2 days. No problems with extreme windy roads as the kids don't get car sick.

I have so far managed to find 3 passes along the way, they are the Fluel, Umbrial and Stelvio.

Also after any recommendations for a place to stay for our overnight stop.

While at St. M worth detouring via the splendid Albula pass. After Stelvio take the Gavia South although take care on that one. Surface is fine but it's narrow and there are some big drops...

Hotel Soldanella in St. Moritz was fine - an alternative just up the road is http://www.hotelcastell.ch/ - slightly weird fashion/art hotel but food/location/view/rooms were great.

If you're feeling adventurous there are some narrow/exciting passes around Lake Garda such as the Passo di Croce Domini east from Breno.

There are hotels at the summit of Stelvio. We stayed here www.hotelperego.it and will be doing so again later on this year.

Ciao dom180, I have just booked a night in the Hotel Castell, looks a very funky place and the view from the pool looks amazing. Thanks for the recommendation.
