First get your insurance sorted, if you do manage to insure it will wipe out any spare change you have.
This.I'd budget atleast £4000 for insurance.
Thats from experience of my 18 year old brother trying to insure his 13 year old 1.4 Corsa and quoted no less than £5000 in a very good postcode area.
Do what YOU want to do, many follow the pack and don't stand out opinions in here.
Welded diffs are great fun and so what if they skip and jump etc.
You can't push it on b roads with a welded though ( for obvious reasons)
If you don't like it a replacement diffs are £200-£300 or get a 328is limited slip for a little more money and then you have the best of both worlds.
Sticker it if you want to, strip it if you want to. Only listen to the advice you can't put back to standard easily and because you're young.
Try it , abuse it, break it, fix it , have fun !

We need more comments like this in threads, not just people giving advice when its not asked for Welded diffs are great fun and so what if they skip and jump etc.

I have read all of the replies, cheers to the decent folk.
Ive decided against welding the diff and fitting a rollcage(for now) after a chat with my dad.
Leaving the rear seats in and fitting a quality speakers and a subwoofer in the boot (mock if you like) Going to be looking for a second hand leather interior.
Still keen on lowering it and finding wheels that suit the car.
On the stickerbombing not im 50/50.
Cheers

The leather sounds a good idea, and the sub and a good set of speakers is the way forwards..Ive decided against welding the diff and fitting a rollcage(for now) after a chat with my dad.

You then make the car a very comfy place to be, and you make it somewhere you can listen to your music in good quality.
Just do an insurance quote on one of these and come back to us.
I'll eat my shoe if you get a reasonable quote, I can't even get insured on my Fiesta or Puma FFS!
If you can get cheap insurance,
Fit leather interior,
Better Speakers,
17'' Alloys,
Lower it slightly,
And polish to a perfection. HTH

insurance shouldnt be too bad on a little 318, would it?
i remember when i was 18 i bought a 2.0 20v Fiat and insured it for around £700, that was only 5 years ago?
I have a 318 as a run around now and the insurance is peanuts ~£300
328 is twice as much on a limited mileage policy.
I do agree with alot of the comments, some of the mods you want to do you will never get insurance with them fitted and they really are pointless for a road car.
Also, i think that was a brilliant idea to keep the car in perfect condition and put on your CV, it would really give you something to make you stand out from the crowd.

If he can insure that BMW for less than 3 figures, he's either not insuring it and just stating the fine, or has performing a miracle!i remember when i was 18 i bought a 2.0 20v Fiat and insured it for around £700, that was only 5 years ago?

To the OP, go sort insurance first. Beware any mods to you do also need to to disclosed or else you wont be insured! Get some cow hide in there, a nice speaker setup and maybe some OEM wheels and bilsteins or equivilant to drop it a tad. But dont do that and only then find your insurance is too much.
The only good news is it will get cheaper to insure. My car has been with me for 6-7 years now and it has gone from NA to turbo engine and the insurance is less than when i started thanks to age and the all important no claims bonus
