Well, here it is and following on from a couple of other threads I had started.
Picked up this 1995 LS400 a couple of days ago, apparently with this mileage it's only just run in!
It's not perfect but then it I did pay 's
tter' money for it.
I've ordered 2 tyres for the front from Camskill as the ones fitted have cracked sidewalls although the tread is good. I'm sure people will be horrified at fitting budget Accelera rubber to a LS but it is in keeping with the intended budget, ie. very small!
2 mirror glasses and an electric antenna mast are winging their way to me from eBay. A quick wash and adjust the parking brake should hopefully see it fit for MOT which is booked for 9th July.
The intention is to run it on a shoestring and see what happens. If it sts itself it can be parted out to recoup the cost, if not I'll run it into the ground. It'll be used mostly as a 2nd car for now but no doubt will be my full time daily once the missus finishes maternity leave.
So why an LS? Well no reason really other than the car was available and cheap. I guess I got suckered but the rep for bombproof reliability and the desire for a V8 on the drive without having any cash tied up. Life's too short and oil is running out so stuff it.

yes these are great cars, very solid and reliable. My old employer had one, and I drove it on a few occasions when he was out of town. His car had 420,000 miles on it, and it was still running perfectly. It just drives down the road so smoothly. I am told, he has now logged 510,000 miles on his car... and it's a 1997 model. Very solidly built, although a bit lacking in terms of character.
I still prefer my Jaguar V12 saloons.

'Wafty' is the 1st word that springs to mind. It really is a superb cruiser, very much at home on the motorway. The criticisms about lifeless steering are well deserved as there is very little feedback. The drivetrain is a beaut though.
It's not a drivers car per se, more of a car for driving. Lots.
