That'd be the budget option (if I had a five figure budget that is).

My mistake I was thinking of the Fiesta Zetec Turbo van.

I've made a few twin Webber ZVH engines for XR2 Stage Rally cars, but I've never worked with Diesel power befor so this will be a learning curve and may even change the way I think about the smelly rattly heavy piles of....... hehe

derv can be quick but it'll never have soul like a petrol lump.

To test this theory this week Ive hooned in 1x 2006 derv 9-3 and 1x 96plate e36 tourer 2litre.... straight six at full chat for a 90min hoon around the B roads. Unbeatable

My car or last years PPC £999 Challenge was an E36 320.....

.....and it was a lot of fun.

A stripped out E36 with a 2.3 SAAB Turbo (400bhp on standard internals) on an Omega gearbox would be awesome.

Pic don't work buddy.

Mine's all original at current, only downside being that it's a tourer. Whilst it isn't tail happy, it is nice and smooth and you can really press on round the B's as long as you know how to work it hard.

....have a shifty while you're there. We're a friendly bunch (mostly).

The £999 Challenge will be taking priority until September so the van will have to be the "consept phase" for a while. wink

Fair enough I shall take a look.

Im torn between 3options for the beemer:

1) run as is, keep mint and maintain it well. As one day it could be a "modern classic" if kept original

2) get tweeking, more for driving pleasure than speed. I.e. coilovers, induction, exhaust, eventually a 330 engine

3) sell it for what I can. Use the money to buy a £200 metro 1400 and get rover tweeking with 2seats and a 1/2 cage. Use it as a daily just to piss the OH off

4) Buy your Rover 213S (for £400), fit a Tomcat (I already have the loom) and go Porsche baiting.
EFA hehe

P.S Here's the Rover thread......

Haha trust me, I WOULD as I have a strong rover weak spot.... Just need shut of the damned beemer. Problem is I paid a grand for it, spent 800 on perfectionist bits, and now obviously can't afford to sell it for 2mars bars and a used condom. (that's about all the offers I've had).

Other problem being, it's a damned good car. Last night I *may* of had a bit of a heated dispute with the OH, and *may* of decided some time apart was for the best, so gone for a 2hour run around the B roads, where by I *may* of exceeded the 2,500rpm rev zone for a wee while........ and I *may* have kept it on VANOS for nigh on the whole 2hours.

DAMNED THING WON'T BREAK! Didn't get hot, didn't miss a beat, didn't rattle, didn't use oil. In fact the only visable sign of use this morning is a fly splattered front screen, black front wheels and 30+ quid of Shells cheapest being missing from the tank.

All her fault of course

Is there a great deal of difference in size and weight between the 2.0 Mondeo TD engine and the 2.5 Transit/Granada Scorpio Turbo Diesel engines?

The 2.0 is a straight swap for the 1.8 but the 2.5 engine's good for silly bhp with a bigger turbo and bits. scratchchin

So here it is.....

...made it home okay. A total distance of a mile and a half with trade plates.

If I had a Pound for every time I've welded these on MGB's I'd have enough for another van. wink

Shock mounts could be useful later.

Why do I get the feeling there's been a corpse in here?

New office?

Concourse clean engine bay.

Quite nippy believe it or not.

Finally a couple of pictures of a Focus beam for comparisons sake. Looks fairly straight forward eh? scratchchin

I would have thought the 2.0 tdci would be an interesting transplant or the 2.2 out of the X-type/Mondeo ST, 155bhp, stock.

It's a van; there's nothing to strip out. hehe

Someone (in the pub last night) suggested I take the beam out and fit an I.R.S (independant rear suspension) using a Scorpio Cosworth differential and fitting a twin turbo diesel LandRover engine on a proper gearbox.

I may get to look at the van this week. I'm picking bits up in the Rover Wednesday. wink

The twin turbo Jag' engine based on a Ford block so it could fit.

Anyway cut, weld, paint and fit a better engine. That's the plan for phase one. wink
