I never said anything of the sort. I just really dislike cars like the skyline. I love lots of classic cars, just not American or Japanese ones.

Some people might like the jap scene, but personally I prefer British sports cars and European hot hatches.
So saying you would look like you could not afford a new car if you had an old skyline means you would never have an old Euro hatchback surely, as they are usually much cheaper.

You are missing out on some of the best cars ever made by for some reason refusing to try Jap or Yank cars, by your posts it seems you do not even respect some of the cars from these lands which seems plain silly.

So you are limited to French, German and a very few British offerings. Quite a sad state of affairs, I literally feel sorry for you as you seem so narrow minded.

Yes to both. I would never own a non-European manufacturer car anyway.

I would be quite ashamed to be seen in an old Skyline to be honest. Would just give the impression of a boy racer who couldn't afford a new car (imo).
Do you really care that much about what people think of your financial status? Do you own the Aston because you like it or because it suggests wealth?

Agreed, old hot hatches can be pretty chavvy. However, when unmodified I don't think they are. There is no need to feel sorry for me, imo the best car in every class in European, therefore I am just limiting myself to the best.

Because it was my dream car.

I would be quite ashamed driving around in an old Skyline though.

Fair enough, but I think most people on this site would disagree with you.

Yours sincerely,

A skyline driver.

Lovely car OP. Loved mine, sold it to pay for wedding, desperately trying to work out how to afford another (whilst still paying for the sodding wedding!)

Mate, you're making an arse of yourself. This was a thread about people wanting to see a Skyline (not unsurprising given the name) then complimenting the OP on his rather nice VW. Then you came in and start being an ahole about Skylines - how was that called for?

As much as I love R32s - one of my favourite hot hatches of all time, especially in MkIV form, slating the Skyline is daft. Whether you like it or not is your opinion, but it's true to say that a Skyline GT-R will cost A)more to buy, B)more to insure (for 95% that try), C)more expensive for consumables like fuel, tyres etc, and D) more expensive to fix when it breaks. While neither is a casual car, the VW is a hot hatch, albeit at the top of the HH category in terms of price, the Skyline is a totally different commitment in terms of cost of ownership. GT-Rs are performance monsters, sold heavily detuned and designed to be taken to serious BHP figures, and performance way beyond that of any hot hatch. I love my hot hatches - I own one, but a Skyline is a performance car far beyond any of the hatch crowd.

The two are incomparable and simply happen to share monikers, now get over yourself.

When exactly did I make a comparison? I said I dislike Skylines. There is so little about them that appeals to me, I would take a Golf R32 over one any day of the week.

Driving a performance master piece would embarass you? You drive a DB9 so I see you're a footballer with bleached blonde hair and a 12 year old missus. I can make up stereotypes too. As for the 'can't afford a new car' bks do you have any idea how much a Skyline costs to run? You're an idiot.

So you'd be more ashamed driving this 20 year old skyline - 54,000 miles and still 10k

Than this golf -5 years old and 60,000 miles and only £10k

I'd personally far rather have the classic, exciting, rare, faster and more depreciation proof car than the golf. But then I'm just a chav and not a true pistonhead like you.

Ps. you seem to make similar inane and ill-informed, and clearly desperate to provoke a reaction, comments in a lot of threads, how the hell did you manage to earn enough money to buy a DB9?

Pps. yet again OP nice car, apologies for derailing the thread even more but I find it difficult not to reply to idiots.

I would rather have the Golf. Those pictures confirmed it. Imo that Skyline looks horrific. I mean seriously, what sort of impression do you give off to people when you turn up somewhere in that?

I don't make comments to provoke a reaction, merely voicing my opinion. I just happen not to like modified, Japanese or American cars. So they aren't inane or ill-informed, I just might not like the same stuff as you or the majorities, doesn't mean I'm wrong.

The sort of people who will be disapproving/offended by a car like that tend to be sad miserable tts anyway.

Why you care what some 'people' who you don't know will think, I have no idea.

And if the people you do know are the sort who will judge you because of your car, they are not worth being friends with.

Apologies to the OP for having his thread derailed somewhat...

Golf looks great, look forward to more pictures.

To me it seems slightly disrespectful to the OP to come on here and say your disapointed that its not a Skyline, that might be your opinion but its not really needed on a thread about a Golf.

As for George, all he did was say his opinion so why the need for all the abuse. To be honest I like the R32 GTR especially a standard looking one but it isnt really a comparison as a daily drive to a golf is it. And lets face it, the one in the picture with the chavtastic wheels isnt a prime example to bring up in the cars defence.

I think it should be left at that and enjoy the OP's Golf.

You know, I love the skyline, technically its excellent. However, George (IMO) is correct too, as a PH I know what a great car it is, however my misses and everyone else that is not a PH would miss the point, and think its an old noisy boy racer car.

We know what it is, and what it stands for, however most people do not. And I would not turn up to business meetings where they could hear you coming a mile away with blacked out windows, and bling wheels. If you don't care what people think of you then fine.

I bet you would get pulled more in the skyline than the golf, and that kind of says it all really.

Personally I would have neither.

Looks like a nice R32 OP. MK5's seen a little more grown up than the '4s although they probably drive very similar. Engines sound great when opened up but they are lacking in power I feel. They could do with another 50+bhp as they have quite a lot of wait to lug around. Certainly compared to the performance of a similar price/age M3 or such.

Just my opinion, but if I had 100 journeys to make and had to choose either of these cars, it would be the Golf every time. The Nissan looks absolutely dreadful and a prime example of what not to do with a car

I agree.

I'd much rather have the Golf R32 than the Nissan.

I, too, usually open 'R32' threads hoping there won't be a Nissan inside.

Just quietly, I'd prefer the Golf as well.

I respect Skylines as great cars. But they are not cars for me.

So, getting back to the point:

OP. Nice car

just to chuck my 2 pence in, that skyine looks like a "borat dun good" car. i, as i expect all the others, respect the performance of a modified one though.

anyways....as for you OP's golf. looks awesome! if my other half had got her way we would hae had one instead of the Monaro. like you said its a brilliant all round car.
