hi all, been a long time lurker, and i dont really post much, but thought i may aswell introduce you all to my bangernomics 306.

its a 1.9dturbo that i purchased around april/may 2011

These are the for sale pictures.

at the time i was living in north wales, and my previous car (ford fiesta mk3.5 SI) had managed to do me out of a head gasket, gearbox and the body was rotten, so my mate down south wales offered me the pug. Mot till November, bearing in mind this was april/may. four new tyres, some s/h no tax and quite high mileage of 175k . but he was only asking £250!

seemed a no brainer to me, but to collect it was a different story! i had to juggle moving back to mid wales, scrapping one car and collecting another, with a house move in the middle!

got my friend to collect me from aberystwyth, and took me to llanelli!

upon arrival i was shocked, the guy had just washed & waxed it, and it looked immaculate for a s reg car! little scrape on the drivers rear 1/4 and a tear on the drivers bolster!

for that money i really couldnt complain, it even had alloys!!

it started first turn of the key, from cold i might had, had 1/4 tank of fuel and idled lovely, with no smoke!

wandered to the post office to tax it and off i trundled.

it changed fine, but the clutch pedal didnt do anything till it got half way down, and the box crunched in 3rd, which i know is a common problem anyway!

these are the pics i got when i returned to north wales ( staying with my old man finishin up the contract on my job)

The milage soon started to rack up, and she never skipped a beat, found some other niggles as the mileage racked up, a knocking from the back & front, and the drivers window didnt work.

the window was just a case of a plastic clip for a quid or so to keep the glass falling out, and a bodge repair to the door loom.

the rear knocking was the bushes for the beam, which were fortunatly in the boot of the car when i bought it! i wasnt aware of this, and the chap hadnt mentioned anything! but hey ho, got them fitted in work for free!

the front knocking was just a case of ARB droplinks, 8quid a side from the motor factors and again fitted in work by myself, for free smile

then i was offered a set of cyclones, with four pretty decent tyres for £150,

well..i could hardly say no could i!!

by this time the milage was racking up, and i had tweeked the fuel pump and played with the turbo wobble

then this came along smile

full powerflow system, for 20quid, from a lad who had written his car off :smug:

i had already made a decat pipe in work, but this was an offer i couldnt refuse, so again, one night in work and it was bolted up smile

so the time went by, and the mileage went up and she still served me fine! only asking for drinks here and there, and, despite i'd screwed the pump, was still returning pretty good mileage smile

i decided to treat it to the wishbone bush, and the handling was starting to go sloppy, and i had noticed the bushes were worn when fitting the exhaust.

so again, 5 quid or so for a bush, fitted in work, happy days!

then this frown

i had failed to align the ball joint up with the bolt properly, and as a result the ball joint had slipped from the hub, while doing 55, round a bend! brown pants where order of the day!

due to me not having much money( i was on my arse at the time, but thats another story) i didnt have the funds to fix, so a quick call to my boss for me to be recovered, and we managed to put it back together at the side of the road and i limped it to work.

as a result i needed another new tyre, id already bought 3 frown

2 winter tyres from my mate in another garage, only done 1/200 miles for £50quid and a budget rear from a puncture and i naffed the tyre driving to town!

i had to wait a week, till payday till i bought a new tyre, and new hub bolt, and i threw it back together!

jus tightening the new bolt and i notice its not getting tighter :/ have a look and the hubs cracked!! censored

so i ring round various breakers, and source one for 30quid all in! happy days!

so another week later, and shes back on the road!

almost done! phew!

since the ordeal of the hub, which is about a month ago, its been fine :touchwood:

still crunches into third, still creaks and groans, but shes just coming up to 181k now and still doing fine, still comfy to drive and in all honesty, i havnt spent that much on it! it does need brakes, but those can wait till they start making a noise!!

heres some more pics to finish with!!

and a cheeky video

Top shedding! I had a 306 HDi and it was a great low cost runabout. In fact my wife still talks about how much she loved driving it!

And if/when yours finally does go pop you'll get your money back on the cyclones biggrin

Those new wheels look a lot better.Even with the cost of parts, you've got a good car for the money.
Has the front been resprayed a lighter silver?(looks like it in picture with wheel hanging off).

Great write up. I have always loved 306s. A friend had one in 6th form and I was amazed how well balanced it was. Also, when I was 16 I had a weeks work experience at a Pug garage and got to go in a few 306s..

If I ever get a Pug it will be a 306.

Also, who doesn't love the XUD engine? Surely one of the great derv engines that really moved things on..

well atm im planning to convert to a FMIC. ive managed to sort out one from a astra 1.7dti than i can modify the front bumper to fit, then its time to up the boost some more. not going to push it though, i heard the rods let go if theres to much boost

i agree, the wheels have made a massive difference! a work collegue has offered to supply two front lowering springs, and lower the back for £100 quid! so may do this too!

ive sourced a newer HDI box locally, that will fix the syncro crunches and give me better ratios, aswell as a bonnet than i plan to have a go at debadging with!!

its had some panels resprayed, the rear 1/4 is different to the door and boot, and the front wing is different to the bonnet and door, but it reall doesnt bother me to much, the company i work for supplies and fits vinyls, graphics and does signwriting, so may embark on some sort of 'glamoflauge' rolleyes

Is the clutch pedal really heavy? My mate had the hdi and first he replaced the clutch cable...which didn't sort the problem, so he changed the clutch. And hey presto, problem solved.

nope, clutch pedals not that heavy if im honest, the first half of the press dosent do anything, most of the time it doesent return all the way up, never really bothered with it tbh....

but in bangernomics styley, ill get the box, and change that and the clutch together, when the clutch/box/cable (delete as applicable) breaks

Surprisingly capable car, I'd have one but finding a semi decent one over here (N.I) is very difficult. The kids are buying them, screwing the fuel pumps out and setting the torsion bars on super low.

Good stuff, I've had both a 1.9DT and an HDi and loved both for different reasons.

Great cars - I was looking for another but got an older 80 TDi Avant instead.

good on you for going for the audi! much better, and easliy tuneable too wink

also, one of my bosses brothers owns a reasturant, and a taxi driver for the firm i work at, his family have a southern fried chicken type place =D

although, u have only just made me think of this, and why it hasnt occured to me before i dont know!

have been toying with the idea of a homebrew Propane injection system, but having a tank full in the boot, and lots of gas being sprayed into my engine, therefore me exploding in a horrendus fireball as soon as i start the thing dosent appeal to me!

have some DIRTY DERV pics! (im not advertising btw, jus posting dirty pictures!)

1z is easy peasy matey! order yourself a potentiometer ( variable resistor 1k-1800)

then splice it in to two wires on the loom going to the ecu, think is wires 2&3 on the 10 pin, although in my mk3 i think it was 7 & 9 but i cant quite remember!

start the car, then adjust the resistance so the revs rise to just over tickover

get in and have fun!!

i wired mine to a switch in the dash, so i could switch it on and off! made one hell of a difference, and considering it was a 90 tdi standard, that mod saw me beat of a ibiza cupra smile

then its bigger nozzles .216, and then a FMIC and your laughing!

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=12165&a...

let me know how it goes...i had it for several months till i sold it, and its still going strong! if u need anymore advice, drop me a pm!

its not bad for couple of quid.

oh dear...tonight hasnt gone well for the dirty derv frown

for around a month now ( after going on a all day hoon round the forestrys, theres been a grindy/squealy noise coming from the drivebelt, i had thought it was the PAS pump pulley that got caked in mud, then blasted off with a hot pressure wash..unfortunatly, it wasnt frown....

popped down to grab myself a pizza, got in, drove of, little belt squeal, nothing i havnt had before, so a quick blip of the throttle makes things quiet! drove about 200 yrds to the end of the road, and smoke starts billowing out the bonnet! not good

i manage to manovure through the traffic, and park up, by this time it was really smoking, really heavy dense white smoke, that stank of plastic, and filled the road up!!

engine off, bonnet up and hey ho....the aux belt has gone! now, why was it smoking, get underneath with my iphone (IOS.5 wink ) had a poke about, being all manly, and put my finger on the tensioner. it was ROASTING! in fact its burnt a blister on my finger, jus from a quick touch!

drove it home, being mechanical fuel pump, dont need a battery to run!

in true bangernomics/ph style, ill throw a can of red bull at it, while smashing its back doors in with my powerfully built shaven head, biglaugh or ill have to source a new tensioner and belt tommorow! and i needed my car for work too! damn

so to sum up my night, ive a broken car, a blistered finger and lost a days work frown

pizza was nice though thumbup
