picked my new (to me) gt4 up today
Discussion
hi everyone, i have been on lookout for a mint gt4 for a while now and finally found one, 450 mile round trip to get it, but i got the gut feeling that this was the one and it was one word WOW, now its not the biggest spec but its running 286bhp and has the following mods
Blitz nur spec full exhaust system
Aussie downpipe
HKS dump valve
Apexi hard pipe induction
but the amount of time and effort that has been put into this car to make it showroom quality is unbelievable, anyway i will let the pics do the talking bear in mind this is a 17 year old car

Very nice, I'd lose the "Torque-Evolution" sticker thing though. Fantastic cars these and that one looks to be well cared for.
I had the pleasure of following one that looked practically identical to this last week, black, big N1 style exhaust. We were making good progress and overtaking slower cars along a single carriageway road, and as I followed him through every overtake, his exhaust let out a very loud crack and flash of fire at the tip. I've never seen a GT4 do that but I suppose any engine in a high enough state of tune will do it, as long as the appropriate exhaust system is fitted. I suppose yours probably does that too, when shifting up to 4th gear as you reach the redline in 3rd?

i used to own a late UK spec '96 with standard bodykit. i see yours has some aftermarket skirts on, still looks nice though.
The UK spec bonnet had a little spoiler on and the front end had some front splitters, i always liked those details.
Watch out for blown ringlands if you turn that boost too high - these can blow quite often so forged pistons are a must if going for some bigger numbers.
The driving position is great in these cars, much better feel to it than the scooby's or evo's which feel like the fast saloons they are, this has the sporty coupe feel that these types of cars should have!
Enjoy it, i miss mine.

i have the front splitters in the boot, the guy never got to fit them but had the full kit painted so its just a case of bonding them.
I understand what you mean the driving position, this feels alot better than my scooby.
Not sure if im going to go more power (i say that now) but will bare that in mind bud cheers.

Cars that aren't in a high state of tune can also spit a bit of flame from the exhaust. OP: Great looking car. You don't see many on the road these days

Well I will agree there but in that case it's more of a bad map in the ECU really. If you have high levels of performance you can expect some level of over-fuelling on a closing throttle which flashes off in the backbox. If you have don't have a particularly high state of tune and it's still banging and flashing then it's just over-fuelling with little reason - I have to laugh wryly when I see chavved up 106s (still slow, even with the usual cam, intake and exhaust manifold and unsilenced free-flowing exhausts the kids go for around here) spitting fire and banging away when they are ragging the tits off their cars and yet going nowhere in a hurry!OP: Great looking car. That is nice! Back in the day I owned an identical one, a 1994 WRC straight off the boat from Japan. And only a couple of 3 years back I sold my white Carlos Sainz turbo 4WD, that was one hell of a sexy car and it did not have a single dent on the bodywork when I sold it. What an idiot! I'd like that back... I did my first ever trackday at Snetterton 2001 in the WRC, it went really well for a standard car.
That looks lovely! I had an imported 1990 ST185 GT4A (the wide arch model with the rare leather & all the toys) a while back, kept it for years until the engine blew Loved it.
Ended up breaking it for bits...got the Walbro fuel pump fitted in my Saab now! Wouldn't mind another one day.

Mine did it all the time on almost standard tune with a blitz spec nur and no cats. Most easy to provoke by going WOT in 2nd or 3rd, and then upshifting after the turbo had fully spooled and was providing maximum boost.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
