Thank goodness you are up to speed with that, we used to unzip the pontoons every six or seven years just to monitor and make sure all was well. And what about the crankshaft???

Not flat plane. Standard 351W. Relatively mild state of tune as it will be predominantly a street car. Might upgrade later if it proves to be boring... biggrin

Years ago I had a few laps round Goodwood as a passenger in a Saphir replica with Peter Thorpe at the wheel. He was doing for GT40s what we at Lynx were doing for Jaguar D Types and the quality of the car was outstanding. It was a Mk4 with a 7 litre lump and for sheer pulling power I don't think I have ever been in anything else to equal that, unbelievable torque at any revs in any gear, you could hear the monocoque creaking under the load. Good luck with yours, I shall be waiting for the first videos...................!!!

Headers, collectors and mufflers just back from being ceramic coated. They've done a nice job.

Not much progress, but little things happening.

Fuel select valve looks much better squared up and with stops added.

Gear shift mounting bracket undergoing final machining.

Steering column housing trial fitted.

Fuel tanks are being fabricated as I post this. Have pretty much everything we need now apart from clutch (ordered) and radiator, so poised to start making some significant progress before Christmas. Tentative completion date - Easter next year. However, other tentative completion dates have already come and gone, so not buying in the champagne yet...

All these hours of effort that go into 'small' details will make for an exponentially better finished product.

Still following with interest here smile

Soooo much 40 envy, perfect in every way (except that it’s in your garage and not mine)....

Love those tanks. While the bags are more original the regular replacement costs/inspection costs must get rather tiring!
What capacity are you getting with those?

I'd think the non-return flaps of more use in case of heavy braking or a front impact. Its not impossible but not a high chance of rolling one!

You've probably already got this sorted but on the assumption that your tanks are going to be rubber mounted in the sills make sure you earth them. I've got a little M5 thread welded on but for yours I'd just stick a tab off one of the bolts on the filler neck.

I know you wouldn't get an original GT40 past IVA for many reasons but WRT the fuel system you'd need to have a bulkhead between any section of the fuel system and the fillers are just "there" inside the chassis but with great big holes through to them! Do you have to make any substantial modifications to things like that to get it registered over there?

Since it is being built from original plans and incorporates a lot of original bits we are attempting to go down the route of having it registered as a 'Vintage" 1966 car. A few parts (suspension, steering)need to be crack tested, buts so far the inspector we have been using is happy. Fingers crossed that continues.

The clutch has arrived. Now we can finally mate the transaxle to the engine (only been 10 years...)

Road/race 8" twin plate setup.

You'd have been bloody annoyed to suddenly discover that you didn't fit at this late stage!

At 6' 4" it was always a possibility. However, I figured if Dan Gurney could fit then I likely could too. smile
