Still a little fettling to do, but with the centre console and shift console upholstered, the interior is looking pretty much as it will when completed.

Getting closer now. With the suspension bits all crack tested and plated the front and rear suspension is fitted for (hopefully) the final time.

Pedal box bolted in place too. A bit busy behind there...

Megaphones made and fitted, as are the brackets and wire stays for the rear clip.

There are still a few little bits and pieces to do, but the car is essentially complete forward of the rear wheel arches.

Front anti-roll bar made and trial fitted.

After a little over 17 years it is standing on its own feet.

One forgets how low these things are.

With the bodywork on it does not look too bad (in my opinion...).

Easy to forget when on build stands...mine is about a metre off the ground, yet the roof is still only at head height!

Getting in is a pain now let alone when it's finished. laugh
Yes. That's the build stand beside it. I suspect I will be doing a lot of kneeling to finish it off. biggrin

Some more progress this week. Luggage boxes (required for the Le Mans race back in '66 ) taking shape.

Front number plate and exterior rear view mirrors on.

Rear number plate lights fitted (really needs to be dark to see them).

Reversion plate and engine cover made. High level brake light installed.

Lots of other little things done, but that's probably enough pictures for now.

BTW, the Reg No is a nice tribute to Bruce and Chris.
Thanks. And the car number is the year they won. I was originally going to replicate 1046's livery, but another car not too distant from me beat me to it. Can't have two GT40s painted the same within 200 km of each other... wink

With the originals, under hard acceleration, there was a constant cloud of fuel hovering over the tops of the carbs. This would cause a possibly explosive situation and most certainly collected on the surface of the rear window, causing discolouration and loss of vision. The plate reduces this. There are some video clips that show reversion. e.g. Not a GT40, but you get the idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw1ihxlCIzI

Not original equipment back in '66, but I figure I will need this skid plate to avoid speed bump rash.

Woohoo! We have axles! The car is now drivable, or would be if we could get it out of the workshop. Need to move the D-Type and SSKs first. Next week...

Apologies for my poor video editing skills - but it is out of the workshop at last!

And some gratuitous pictures.

Outside at last

What people will see in their rear view mirror...

...and a few seconds later.

The office.

The business end.

Pretty much the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle added - fire extinguisher plumbed in (hope I never have to use it).

External pull. there's one on the dash too.

In its natural environment. At Teretonga Park race circuit for a testing session. A couple of electrical gremlins, one of which we sorted on site, the other will take a bit more sleuthing. Suspension and steering all performed well. It goes like a cut cat. Pretty happy chappie.

This was the first day it was really in the public eye and I was quite taken aback by the amount of interest shown in it. Lots of people wanting to know about it and wanting to take pictures. Video below.

Soooo much appreciation for the work involved, truly an epic build start to finish.

Love it...

I really hope we will get chance to meet at some point even if our cars don’t, so what’s next???
Yes - would be great to meet up. "Whats' next?" Why using it to go to the supermarket of course.

On its way back to Dunedin.

In the garage for its first night at home. Off to the certifier tomorrow for one of the many steps needed to make it road legal.

Very excited. Car is now fully certified, warranted and registered (albeit with a temporary plate). In other words, we are now road legal. Whoop, whoop.

I see you need to have an msnz authority card as being required. What does that mean for driving and selling? Only in a motorsport environment can you use it??
I need to enter it in two Motorsport NZ sanctioned events each year to keep the authority cards current, and thus be allowed to drive it on the roads.
