Have yet to make that decision. If I stay true to the original, probably just VHT paint, but I am tempted by ceramic coating.

Some more progress. Passenger door on.

Door hardware on.

Door cutouts done. This space will be lined to provide some storage.

and, now that two of the other cars have gone from the workshop there was some space to have a play. Propped the wheels in the arches to see what the finished product might look like (as you do). Not bad.

Dash and demister grille painted and back in. Connecting the instruments and switch-gear up is going to be fun...

Been busy lately, so not much progress. However, a few tiny steps forward...

Instruments, fuse boxes and switch gear installed in dash.

Fuel tank selector valve trial fitted. I think I will rotate it 45˚ anticlockwise before finalising.

Front brake ducts installed.

Just discovered this thread, amazing - well done that man! Proper cross over exhaust, has it got a flat plane crank too? If so it will sound epic. Years ago we used to look after a GT40 and I remember problems with corrosion between the fuel tanks and the monocoque, weren't the originals rubber bag tanks and condensation used to build up inside the sill? IIRC we fabricated aluminium tanks which slid in from the front, wrapped in foam to prevent electrolytic reaction. Great cars!!!
Yes - exactly right. This mono is zinc plated to try to minimise corrosion, plus I am going the aluminium tank route as you describe.

Not flat plane. Standard 351W. Relatively mild state of tune as it will be predominantly a street car. Might upgrade later if it proves to be boring... biggrin

Headers, collectors and mufflers just back from being ceramic coated. They've done a nice job.

Not much progress, but little things happening.

Fuel select valve looks much better squared up and with stops added.

Gear shift mounting bracket undergoing final machining.

Steering column housing trial fitted.

Fuel tanks are being fabricated as I post this. Have pretty much everything we need now apart from clutch (ordered) and radiator, so poised to start making some significant progress before Christmas. Tentative completion date - Easter next year. However, other tentative completion dates have already come and gone, so not buying in the champagne yet...

Since it is being built from original plans and incorporates a lot of original bits we are attempting to go down the route of having it registered as a 'Vintage" 1966 car. A few parts (suspension, steering)need to be crack tested, buts so far the inspector we have been using is happy. Fingers crossed that continues.

At 6' 4" it was always a possibility. However, I figured if Dan Gurney could fit then I likely could too. smile

Oh wow, what an awesome read! Seems to be coming together somewhat now!

Where did you get your exhaust coated? I need mine doing in the coming months and costs etc seem to be all over the place when looking online!

Thanks,

Scott
I'm in New Zealand, so my coater is probably not much use to you sorry.

As for the tub colour, yes, it is a match for the factory colour. I can't recall the code off the top of my head but I can find out if you wish.

Cooling system coming together.

EWP and controller nicely nestled behind the passenger side bulkhead...

...giving a straightforward connection to the front of the block.

John has all the sensors installed (water temp, oil pressure, oil temp and one for a low oil pressure warning light), and has moved the EWP controller to beside the voltage regulator behind the driver's seat. Makes it more accessible than where it was beside the EWP. (No idea why all the pictures have been rotated???)
