As per the subject had to be invited because they used Pugly as one of the display cars..along with my friend Adrians red 1.6 GTI.

Today they did the national dealer launch of the 208 GTI (and a few others)...they wanted 2 205 GTIs so here we are!

Peugeot seem to love Pugly as much as I do....someone actually said they should just buy it off me and be done with it....OH HELLLLLLL NO!!!

smile

Think they've scored an own goal, makes the 208 GTI look st! (As in the 205 GTI's are so nice.)

They should have stood it alone. It just looks so bloated next to your cars

Take it the 206 GTi was an embarrasing flop they didnt want to show one?

In fairness they lent me a 208 Feline (top spec) to drive up to Silverstone in today...not a GTI but still a very nice solid little car.

To be honest its always going to be slightly bigger as they have to hit safety N-CRAP ratings which they didnt when the 205 GTI was launched.

I am not a massive fan of Peugeots modern offerings....but you know what I think they have gotten it right with the 208

They are basically saying "look at these brilliant cars we used to make, this is the stty thing we make now" the same as the MG6 advert.

The thing is its not a st car...read what I said above...yeah its bigger than the 205 of course its going to be.

The 120hp Derv Feline 208 they sent me to drive up in was nimble...light and exceedingly nippy driving back to back....its never going to be a 205 but seriously its not a bad modern remake.

Love all the uneducated hate that is being spouted....until you have driven both back to back you cant make an educated and informed decision!

I never said it was st. I know the 208 isn't a bad car (apart from the fugly styling). I was just using that as a general comment when manufacturers showcase their old brilliant cars next to their new bland cars.

Styling wise, the 208 is forgettable. In fact most hatches look the same these days, i suppose theres only so much they can do with the safety testing they have to pass.

Your eyes are immediately drawn to the 205's, lovely pair. I have high hopes for the 208 gti though i think it'll be alright.

Your front suspension is very lofty, looks odd.

really liked that 208 when i first saw it but i'm bored of it already, i reckon the 207 gti is still a pretty decent looking car as long as you don't look at the front..

The 208 just doesn't look sporty though- it just looks pretty standard. Looks quite feminine too.

yes I think they should be applauded to some extent - they realised the 207 was even worse than the 206 it replaced, and with the 208 they have stepped up the build quality/design, whilst also making the all-important step towards lightness. I think aiming to get it anywhere near the dimensions/featherweight of a 205 is pretty unrealistic in this class now tbh.

I suspect the current pedestrian crash rules (where the bonnet has to be a certain distance above anything hard in the engine bay) means that all small cars will now have ugly bulbous front ends.

I assume the 208 still shares an engine with the Mini Cooper S?
