does UK costoms allow importation of wood products with out getting things teated for pesticides. if its going in a container it might have been better to get them to put it on a steel frame.
They'll be able to tell it pressurised wood but worst case scenario is it causes a longer delay which on the scale of things will be no time at all. It will be in a container that will be sealed, it will only be opened before it reaches me if randomly choosen by customs for checking.Steve_D said:
Invest in one of these it will make moving it around so much easier.
£238 well worth it.

Thanks for link Steve. I've built a car dolly for moving it around. As you say it will be a good send! I made as it will sit the chassis just under 2ft off ground so will be a good working height and useful for unloading.... I hope!£238 well worth it.

What's the sketch with the windscreen? Can they provide an e-marked item?
Simply put no, they are just DOT marked. I could of had the tching added, but you can guarantee id get a stone chip or crack at some point. So what I'm doing is having a mould made from the one being sent to me and then E marked windscreens can be produced. Not the cheapest by any stretch of the imagination but at least ill never have a problem getting a windscreen quickly if chipped and if anyone in Europe needs a screen ill be able to have one made quickly and easily.matlee said:
Daft question alert....
Would it not be possible to put the car through the IVA without a windscreen and then add the DOT marked one afterwards?
The IVA booklet / test doesn't require a windscreen, however if the surroundings / mounts for a window is present, its deemed a windscreen should be fitted and therefore would fail.Would it not be possible to put the car through the IVA without a windscreen and then add the DOT marked one afterwards?
I wont be fitting the side windows till after the IVA as they are not required and can only test what's in front of them.
Also with only having one windscreen and production being in America it made sense for me to have a mould made from it with the bonus of E markings as well.

i was told i needed side screens, if not the car would be deemed incomplete, know the place to get them from with e marks, send a pattern and they'll send the new e marked ones ;-)
thanks for the info ;-) Id been following a lot of GT40 builds and they don't put the side windows in hence my thinking if i trim it off around where the window would go.But none the less if the biggest headache I have is side windows ill be happy man
Delivery week
The blog is mean't to be a useful series of updates and comments so I don't want to overload it with pics. However twitter I have no qualms about bombarding. If you want to see delivery pics ill be doing them this week on the day as we get it out and put it in position for work, ill also tweet as I go through the build.

Well today was really hard work. But managed to get the car out in the end on to the flat bed truck and then on to the floor but it was tricky especially with light fading, took an hour and a half to unload.
The chassis is so beefy and strong that 3 of us couldnt lift it on to the car dolly, so that will be done on saturday, I reckon it will take around 6 of us to move it. Thats good because a V6 / V8 conversion once on the road is do able. nice to have some options... anyway some pics. I'll update the blog at the weekend with more / better pics.

It must be a relief to have it home and locked up after all the doubt spread about it being vaporware.
I think a lot of people will be keeping an eye on the progress of your build. Bravo for being the first!
Of course its always a bit of a relief, doubt does get put into your mind but I did do a hell of alot research to check the risk.I think a lot of people will be keeping an eye on the progress of your build. Bravo for being the first!
I'll be happier when he chassis is on the dolly...can do something then lol

Looking very good, now the hard work starts.
Any clues on engine or colour. I note that this thread is GT4 but on the DDR site they have a GT4 for transverse engine 4 pot (Honda) and GT8 for longitudinal v8's (LS in the pics). Are the chassis very similar and which is yours ?
My choice would be to use the BMW M5 v10 if i will fit, the sounds and delivery would suite the car I think (or possibly the Audi RS6 v10, either NA or turbo). Both of these have been fitted to Ultima so it's possible if there is space.
As for colour - I'd go very shouty with Kawazaki/Lotus Pestachio/Ford Escort Le Mans Green or ultra subtle with metallic brown with light blue Gulf/GT40 style decals or possibly the stealth option with matt olive drab and matt black wheels and decals.
Dreaming over, back to work !
All the very best and watching in awe !
I see you answered the engine stuff yourself As you say its nice to have the option and this chassis can definitly take anything thrown at it, I've never seen any other kit cars with such a bulk to the frame.Any clues on engine or colour. As for the colour I have a strong candidate in mind...but lets face it....that's a long way away yet. I have updated the blog with delivery pics now and some chassis pics.
I will update the blog regularly, I have updated it today with more info and pictures. I just cant update it everyday on the fly per say.
I will of course jump on here and answer any questions people have as I'm regularly on this forum anyway.

This morning I managed to fit the pedals and master cylinders, watch the F1, then I moved on to dry fitting the rack, steering column and there a couple issues I want to get round. Anyway just one pic worth sharing on a thread and that's the cylinders installed with reservoirs (caps to be changed) Took me quite a while as I hate things being out of line and not neat so had to get the clips just right as well!

Builds coming along well with many hurdles as expected. The blog is updated with a lot of info, but a Pic for pistonheaders not posted on the blog etc..., test fitting the radiator tonight, all back off now for electric fan fitting and to allow me to finish the T piece brake lines with space.
I'm looking into sound proofing now and want people's experiences.
Wheel arches and bulk head I want the best there is as this will only be one layer of sound proofing.
The floor will have a layer of sound proofing but ill be making an skin plate which will go on the bottom of the car with some more sound deadening so can be cheaper stuff.
Direct experience of these types of things for sale on eBay welcome

Not sure if this is what you are looking for and it's not on Ebay but I have used this in the engine bay of my car:

Works well and looks good.
Thanks as I wasn't sure what I was buying I've gone with a company called silent coat and buying deadening, noise absorbers, noise isolators etc... and hopefully it will do a good job! As I did get advice from them and gave them the details of the car.http://www.soundservice.co.uk/high-density-acousti...
