The original Mondeo was an attractive car and a million miles ahead of the Sierra IMO.
In some ways, yes, but I far preferred my Sierra 4x4's to the Mondeo 4x4. Obviously you have to consider the extra refinement that the younger Mondeo had, but technically the 4x4 system was just not as good (to me).

I had similar thoughts I went from my XR4x4 after over 5 years of ownership to an 18 month old mondeo ST24 back in 2001 & I just didn't like the mondeo at the time it was just too boring & refined so I swapped it after only 9 months for s14a 200sx.

I later went on to buy another two mondeos a V6 ghia X mk 2 & a 1.8 LX mk1, I am a really big fan of mondeos now I just didn't connect with them back then.

Love it.

I remember these coming out first - a lot of hype for various reasons.

Firstly they were the first normal family car to have airbags as standard - and there was a big focus on safety in how the car was promoted.

And I recall lots of talk about Fords future depending on this car.

A real landmark car for Ford imo - as the P10 Primera was for Nissan - hence why id like to own one or both of them in the future.

Looking less and less likely though as time goes on - as both these cars are getting rare frown

Really? A quick trawl of Autotrader and EBay will find you a massive choice around the £500 mark. If you really want one, you could have your pick of them tomorrow... What on earth is holding you back?

Blimey, not seen one for years.

Is there a Ford that doesn't look good on RS7s?

Think a Mondeo Si? A guy near my primary school had one nack in 200, and checking google maps he still had it as late as 2008, not sure if he has it now.

I remember when these came out, it's amazing how little of them you see now, even the facelift models are disappearing

Just fantastic!!!!!!!!!! I owned this very car from new, well my dad bought it new and then I had it after him before foolishly selling it on. Some great memories of that car and I can't tell you how pleased I am that its been looked after so well!!!!!!!!!! My dads been looking at these pictures of his old car for hours - he did ask how much I thought you'd sell it for!

the grill is different because about a year after I had the car I hit a bird and cracked the grill. jennings Ford replaced it but took weeks to do so. When they finally changed it this was what they'd put on and i just wanted the car back and never sorted it out. sorry boxedin

A few years ago i started to wish i hadn't sold it and seeing these pictures really makes me wish i hadn't weeping If you've got any more please please post them up here when you get a chance. and if you ever want to sell it whistle

I missed the one I was watching on eBay thanks to a Tesco delivery driver doing 35 in a sixty zone. banghead

There are a couple on eBay right now, a tidy red one for a grand and a bodged blue one Preston way for £350 (starting price).

Great cars and there are fewer MkI Mondeo's on the road than Morris Minors these days.

That looks lovely, always had a soft spot for the Mondeo. There used to be a citrine (sp?) model that sat outside Blockbuster in Inverness many years ago and I always gazed at it as a kid!

Your one looks fantastic, I would love a car like that.

Thanks, yes the exhaust is the standard item (lovely mild steel hehe), no doubt replaced countless times in the last 20 years!

Like I said in the other thread, the cars seem to come up now and again but they're usually tatty. I'd like to get hold of another if only for spares, as some things on them are unique to the 4x4 model (like ABS sensors etc) and Ford stopped making spares for it years ago, so if it isn't in old stock, you've had it!

Not quite so. Since the X Type was 4wd and Ford based various parts for the Jag' fit the Mondeo. wink

I like that, a lot, can't lay my finger on it, but there's just something about an ultra rare 4x4 model of a (once) popular family car that's cool. Plus I can't the last time I seen an old Mondeo without gaffer tape on the bumper!
