very nice! My 306 daily just seems to be constant chase to solve knocks and clunking!
I had a 1.4 306 for 10months and did 10,000 miles in it, all it needed was two front p bushes and a new rad (which I might of been able to bodge if I knee what was leaking) which was very surprising as it was a high miler and pretty rough.Sold it on for £60 less than I bought it for, its been scrapped now though
Depends on who's owned it previously really, all of the common issues have cheap fixes apart from the rear beam.
I had a phase 2 GTI-6 for years, around 8 years I think. First 5 years used as a daily car going to work and back with the odd trackday and Nurburgring trip thrown in. It was then used as weekend fun before selling to a mate (best man!) who uses it daily. He bought it just as a bit of fun while he finds an Evo in the spec he wants, but actually loves the little thing now so still hasn't got that perfect Evo lol
My experience was very good with them. I like to think I looked after mine, changing oil and filter every 8k and cambelt/water pump every 40k. I had the heater matrix go on mine, which cost £80 in parts and a weekend of my time to fit, that was the hardest problem the car gave me. General wear and tear items where droplinks, which are plastic on the GTI-6, metal on every other 306, but seemed to last 12 months top. Apart from that, I had no problems.
I thought it was a great daily drive, they're very comfortable cars yet still corner without rolling everywhere. Gearbox is annoying if you try to use all the gears while pottering. I quickly learned to use 1st, 3rd, 6th when pottering about.
Cossack grey is a rare colour I believe, certainly looks smart! Phase 1 is also as light as a later Rallye, despite still having aircon and electric windows. Looks a cracker.

Cheers Zed, hoping to have it just as a good weekend fun. It's currently on 105k so don't want to be racking it up too much. Will be buying new droplinks and wishbones soon just so I know everything suspension wise is new.
(also, this is the suuuper lightweight Ph1 which doesn't have air-con. But does have silly heavy electric windows and sunroof, damn)

Anyway, OP, lovely car. Would love to have a drive in a GTi-6, A lad I knew had a phase one and it was a riot!
They're great, have had them on my other 306 for a couple years now. Have them on mid setting (8-10ish clicks on adjuster I think) and they're spot on. (My mate did put them to the hardest setting on the other car and it was the WORST 15mile drive home ever, such a harsh ride.)
Best £100 spent on rear dampers.

Well, treated the ol' 6 quite a bit lately with alot of work done by Chris at 'CarWurx':
New rear badges:
New clutch cable, gearbox oil and seals. I also bought 2 Toyo R1R tyres for the rear:
Also had Dan at PureDents out to sort the dent in the boot out:
Before:
After:
Also took a door down to Carter & Browns in Leeds centre to get sprayed. Will be ready to be picked up on Monday.
And as of today, just been down to CarWurx again to have the front tyres changed to R1Rs along with wishbones, drop links and having the tracking done:
So, every suspension component has been changed recently so she's a good un' for another 100K. I just need to take the front wheels down to ATS to get the centreless wheels balanced.
How it sits now:
Nooooow I just need to save up for a while for a full blow over/respray.
Cheeeers.
