It all seemed fine but on Monday morning the car wouldn't go: air in the fuel lines. This problem always is the fuel pre-filter. I used was an aftermarket job, made by Stark; aftermarket or genuine, they never come with a new sealing 'o' ring and I forgot to order a new one; the old one had been an old one once already and was probably into a six figure mileage. I decided to start again and ordered a job lot of Merc pre-filters and new 'o' rings (they only come in packs of ten). I ordered these on Monday morning and collected them at 8h05 on Tuesday, not bad for non-stock items, well done Merc Newcastle. The Merc filter is better quality than the Stark item (which disintegrated when I removed it, after two days and zero miles on the job) and cheaper, too. The new 'o' ring cured the air leak.
You can see the old pre-filter was way past its best but still making a decent fist of collecting dirt.

How will I live all my treating old cars far better than I ever would in reality fantasies?
Anyone else up for running cars to epic mileages while taking on repairs that would have me running hit the hills?
Does PH no longer 'sin-bin' members temporarily? I hope his ban isn't permanent, and that he's willing to return. I've always enjoyed r129sl's threads, for me he's a big part of what makes this forum interesting. PH should be promoting content like his recent NC500 trip report, not chopping off its own limbs.

Can you elaborate without breaking any rules BM? Haven't been following as been too busy with work.
I don't consider that sharing information is breaking any rules, then again, I've never read the rules because I'm not a troublemaker and rules should only apply for exceptions and to protect the well intentioned contributor -- right?

I don't believe so Greg. Unless the arrrrr has taking a massive dislike to the realisation that this isn't the cosy world of his own making, he'll be back in at least two weeks and updating the thread. I'll see if there's any material that I can find in the meantime from the, erm, archives.

Ah I didn't realise it was a temporary thing, pleased to hear he will be back. Hello BP. I've had a bunch of things fall over on my car but, to my knowledge, not that. What are you experiencing?
My coolant header tank leaked. In that instance, the join betwixt tank and spout was the issue - hamfistedness in earlier ownership or just heat cycles likely to be to blame.
