Great thread - I look in here from time to time and am always pleased that this W124 is well used.

I've recently been looking in the classifieds and wondering if there is any merit in the 4 cyl versions? or should they be avoided at all costs?

I've bought one of the electric oil pumps today. £10.50, what can possibly go wrong. I did the G-wagen and it made an awful mess: the stream of oil from the sump splashes over a cooling pipe then goes everywhere, and there is so much of the stuff that it almost over-topped my drain pan. So I will see how we get on with the pump.

The 4 cylinder 124s are pretty nice. They are a lot lighter up front. I knocked about in an E220 cabriolet for a while and was rather taken by it. Really, there are no dud 124s.

A great moment today: the car struck its fourth century. At Baister's garage, it's second home. I had driven it up from Worcester (a task which it dispatched with customary aplomb).

Excellent, although I am disappointed you didn't use a hairdryer to also get the outside temperature to 12.4 at 1:24.

Amazing! Great to see it still going strong and a good effort on the trip/clock too.

Sadly I'm fairly sure the '124s temp gauge doesn't have that kind of precision. It's .0 or .5 only.

My wife has pointed out that I ought to have run the tank down to 1/8 full (12.4%) and revved the engine to 1,240rpm. I am annoyed at myself for missing the latter. The car is running really well and has not wanted for anything (apart from washing) for months now, cost per mile over the last six months being a mere 26.8p (and over the five years I have been keeping records, it has only cost 29.8p per mile).

The last big milestone was 300k on 26 January 2015, almost five years to the day.

It will need wings again and a bit of paintwork titivation soon. Next time I do the wings I will be much more thorough: zinc primer, epoxy mastic, stone chip, paint on the inside and around the edges.

Spent a bit over £3.5k on mine, which is why he is having some time off.

Brake lines

Shocks and Springs front and rear.

Centre Box.

Bushes for the rear suspension.

Dodgy Relay.

Hazard warning light switch.

I must check the invoice.

I should know that but I've only done about 400 miles in mine and haven't spent long enough looking at the dash.

I was going to suggest this myself, prior to the insight that it increases in increments of 0.5degC

Always good to see another milestone reached.

Any long trips planned this year?

Which came first? Spraying the front light green, or spraying the back silver?

It's a very space age 1960s - Doctor Who.

It's a very space age 1960s effect - reminiscent of Doctor Who.
