Hmm. Suspicious.

In the middle lane, and about to be overtaken? Something is wrong.

I think it's a 'shop. Everyone knows you can't take a photo of something travelling at the speed of light.

This vehicle looks in remarkable condition for its age, let alone mileage.

Nice to see it getting some positive attention in the wider world, too.

I did 320 miles in 4.5 hours in it today. It just thrummed along at 85mph, ever so smoothly. I don't think I exceeded 90.

It needs some work to the underside, there is a big hole under the off side rear footwell and the rear anti-roll bar brackets are only just clinging on. It is booked in to be stripped, all welding carried out, any surface rust ground back and treated, then the entire underside and around the sills and behind the bumpers coated with zinc primer, epoxy mastic, stone chip, then paint, then underseal. I have a newly powered-coated rear subframe, new subframe and diff mounts, another set of new suspension links, new handbrake cables, to make the re-assembly job easier. I am going to fit a slightly longer diff from an E300 diesel saloon to give it more motorway legs.

Then it is off to the bodyshop for another titivation. New wings, clean out the windscreen aperture, tidy up various other bits of rust and then a full shoot.

Mileage is approximately 415,400.

No-one likes a show-off r129sl. You and your fancy spaceship miles. And your fancy perfect maintenance regime. Anyway, 500 for cash...?

Thy diff awaiteth.

In a very non-chasing way, if you're going to be heading down south this week, let me know where and when and I'll try to be there.

I do enjoy this thread. A car with solidity from another era, accompanied by manners that to some, are from another era.

There must be some mistake Shirley. You must mean no advisories since the 2021 MOT…

Nope! 2012 MOT had some advisories. Since then, no notes on every pass.

Love these types of thread and it’s a real antidote to the PCP lease brigade who must change “their” cars every 3 years as it will need an MOT and £££££££££‘s spending on repairs when the car is not even properly run in.

It's funny how some people seem to view MOT history as some sort of definitive truth on the condition of a used car. I have no special arrangement or friendship with the tester I usually use, but I've had to weld up holes in the floorpan of one of my cars on a couple of occasions not long after it's received a clean MOT.

What an amazing thread. r129sl - very well done!

I've owned 3 124's - a 1995 E220 saloon which went from 27K to 184k before a drink driver wrote it off. Then a 300TE which was a bit of a shed and then a 1995 E280 which despite having the wiring loom replaced still refused to start regularly.

Now seriously considering a late model S124 - maybe a 220 or a 300TD. They are beautiful looking cars.

Er, not quite. Back now. About 300miles in 4hr30, never exceeded 75mph. A really pleasant drive.
